I wanted to replace the ugly rubber grips on my 686-4 so I bought some k/l frame round butt panels from Midway, the description says they are diamondwood which is I think is birch ply stained to look like walnut, that was ok and that is what I thought I would be receiving but what I got was solid walnut. Here are a few pics of everything, anybody got an idea who might have made these grips? The last picture is what I thought I was getting. I'm not complaining just curious.

The fit on the back strap is good, overall finish is excellent, I don't think they are Altamonts, here are the two they offer. Plus the Altamonts were twice the price.

They are most definitely Altamonts.

I have several pair all bought from them, with various markings on the back. The lastest grips no longer say Altamont, but have the model they fit cnc cut in the backs of them. They mostly work in laminate, but will cut them from real wood once in a while. The laminate is hard as hell, but I prefer real wood.

I would advise you to seal the back of them with something though. I have had good results with Tru-Oil. It's just to keep whatever you put on the gun under the grips, from soaking into the wood.

Those grips are beautiful! I like that walnut.

That laser engraving is def Altamont's font on all the ones I've seen.
