My grandson requested a new rifle for Christmas. Searching online and local gun shop prices, the current sale price is $350.

Does this sound like the lowest this time of the year?

He currently shoots a Ruger SR-22 and 10/22.

Of course at times, it seems more so than not, I have bad timing. Regardless, that's a good price w/ their normal low-priced shipping. I have dealt with them multiple times and really like them. I'd likely pull the trigger, however, .......:D

If you do get the grandson the 15-22, I'd begin buying a few spare parts when available, such as an extra extractor, extractor springs, extractor plungers, etc. Perhaps you'll never need them but they're affordable insurance. If you'll go to Smith & Wesson Rifles M&P 15-22 Parts, they have some parts and those they are cuurently out of have a button you can click on to be notified when the item is back in stock. Very handy. Regarding the extractor, many folks more knowledgeable than me, recommend this one from whoever you wish to purchase it: I used this person on ebay. Perhaps a tad high; I don't really know. Shipping was free and reasonably quick. S&W Smith Wesson M&P 15-22 Rifle VOLQUARTSEN Exact Edge Extractor extracter | eBay

So you are saying that the S&W 15-22 is not very reliable and the OP should reconsider?

That's a bit of a leap. Not at all. What I'm saying is that S&W aren't the best when it comes to selling spare parts and not many vendors carry them. Therefore, it's wise to have a few of the more perishable items around. Speaking only for myself, I find the 15-22 very reliable.

Just bought one of the new M-locks for my grandson for $350 OTD last week and thought I'd stolen it...

GREAT little guns.

Well, I pulled the trigger today, ordered a S&W 15-22 from grabagun.com

Even with the $7.99 shipping and the local FFL fee, it was still $25-$45 cheaper than any local gun dealer, plus I don't have to drive 45 miles one way to the cheapest dealer.

Just have to find a good, safe place to hide it until Christmas.

Thanks for all the info.

Wow, I bought each of my twin grandsons a 15-22 last year and paid about $469 for the snakeskin camo (can't remember what its called). Maybe I should pick up a $269 purple camo for their sister while the gettin's good! She'll need one next year.

Do it. Those "girly" 15-22 prices there have been under 300.00 for quite some time. Sure as I say that they'll go up.:D

Well, it's been almost 3 months since Christmas and the weather finally cooperated for us to get some range time with my grandson's new M&P AR-15-22. The state game lands rifle range was crowded, but I wanted to start at the 25 yard range and it was the worst. Needed to sight it in with the irons and then the red-dot, so we had to wait for a bench to open up.

Absolutely no problems except with the 30 round mag, it didn't like to feed when it was fully loaded. But I quickly recognized the problem and we continued.

We ran about 200-300 rounds through the new rifle, I'm very pleased with the new gun. He just loved the Red-Dot. He uses the magazine to hold on, so a vertical grip will need to be added soon.

He also got to shoot a .223/5.56 that a guy next to us offered for him to try. I see another rifle in his future soon.

Here's a video on youtube of him shooting:

Just be aware that the holding of the magazine can cause feed issues.

I'll bet he had a good time. I've found that the CCI Blazers are my preferred cheap ammo as they tend to cycle through even my 22 pistols. I've had mine since it was first released, and bought a second a couple years later (the FDE MOE), both have been flawless and plenty accurate.
