Hello all,
Great forum you have here, tons of knowledge! I just picked up a new M&P 15-22 sport (compliant model) last week and got to take it to the range twice this weekend. I have some more magazines and a fake flash hider (live in CT...) on the way which I'm excited for.
On Saturday a buddy and I went to shoot it and we discovered the iron sights were pretty much dead on right out of the box. Unfortunately, the trip wasn't a success because the rifle kept jamming/stovepiping every 3rd round using Federal automatch 40 grain! It was very frustrating as I'm used to my SIG handgun which has never had one jam in over 1500 rounds. I had the range officer shoot it and he gave me some Blazer ammo which fed and ejected perfectly. He said to try a hotter round next time.
Yesterday I picked up a box of Remington Golden Bullets (high velocity HP's) and it made a world of difference - we had 1 stovepipe in over 250 rounds. We managed to get the red dot reflex sight zeroed and had an absolute blast shooting it.
Has anyone had the same experience with ammo? I have read that the 22LR's need to break in a bit and some rifles are just picky with certain ammo without any real rhyme or reason. Appreciate any insight, I'll stick with the Remington goldens for now until I need to pick up some more.
Here's the rifle pretty much out of the box:
Red dot installed (cheap DD119):
Only shot we managed to get at the range (excuse the Snapchat screengrab):
Group with the sight dialed in from about 40 feet.
Some slow-motion video from the range:
