I inspected and "DROS'ed" our second M&P22 this morning. We've fired only CCI Blazer: no FTE/FTF and the slide is like butter, maybe 500 rounds down the barrel.

I did notice that the new gun has a definite drag on the slide about 2/3 of the way back. I'm sure this will smooth out after a cleaning, lube and a few hundred rounds, but I'm wondering if anyone else has noted this.

The only concern I have is that the M&P 22 recoil spring is very light and it might not take much drag to produce an FTF.

I'll have the gun in 10 days and we'll see how it goes.

I'm sure this will work itself out and a replacement is not an option in any event since the M&P 22 comes off the CA roster in 7 days

I have a new one with maybe 100 rounds through it. Haven't noticed any drag on mine like you mention. I did just swap sights to dawson precision, so nice to now have 3 fiber optic dots compared to the stock sight. Have not shot it yet since the upgrade.

I'm new to handguns and might not otherwise have notice but for the fact that we have a smooth M&P 22 in hand. Using Google I did find a few disturbing threads (and a Youtube) where S&W had to replace the gun; wouldn't be a problem but for our CA roster. I'm going to call S&W tomorrow and see what they have to say.

The doomsday scenario is I'd have to try to sell the replacement to someone out of state with S&W shipping direct to that individual. Doubt you can do an SSE on the M&P 22 since the barrel is not (readily?) replaceable.

if it's a warranty thing I'm not sure that being off roster would stop them from fixing/replacing the gun.

I certainly would not be crying "doom and gloom" or calling Smith before the weapon is in your hands and you have fired it. I feel for people who live in third world countries within the borders of the USA ! I'm sure your pistol will be just fine, mine gobbles any ammo....shooting stuff I bought twenty years ago. As noted the fiber optic sight brings out the best in these pistols.

Thanks for the responses. I'm picking up the gun on the 13th, will clean immediately and run 200-300 rounds through it the next day. That will be a good litmus test. BTW, I couldn't have bought this gun locally since no CA dealer would stock a handgun so close to its "sell by" date. We (wife and I) needed to cycle through the 30 day periods between purchase which is why we cut it so close.

Have 4000-5000 rnds through mine and have felt that slight "drag" from day 1. Have not had a problem yet. The "drag" is still there. The only problems I had with ftf were caused by dirty ammo. The feed ramp gets dirty, or the top of the mag needs to be cleaned. I suggest to stay away from anything Remington. It runs great 'til everything gets dirty. Then you may have ftf, key holing and a leaded barrel . It may also help to lightly grease the slide tracks. It works for me.

I just add one drop of Gun oil to the top of the hammer after cleaning this will take out that drag.. I'm not a fan of frog lube or Seal #1 but do now use just one drop of Seal #1 on the hammer now insted of oil after doing this there is no drag felt even if the gun sits for months.. I'm just a little older and set in my ways not saying The new lubes are bad but I have had guns for almost 40 years and not a spot of rust so I stick to what works for me. But that is IMO of a big friction spot on the M&P .22's George

One week from now after I've cleaned, lubed and fired the new M&P 22 I'm sure my concern will disappear. The whole CA roster situation is just a source of aggravation and agitation for us left coasters. I may stop in at the LGS today to give the gun another exam; if nothing else I'll exercise the slide a bunch of times and make sure it doesn't hang up.

I know part of my rub is the hammer against the frame... A little twb25 seems to alleviate it most of the time... I would send mine back, but I've changed so much stuff I've probably voided my warranty...

If you get a chance do try some Seal 1 on the top of hammer. My M&P .22 has been unfired now for a year and a half just pulled it out of the safe and still no drag.. I know with oil if I left the gun a few week without use I would feel the drag and sticking again. Seal 1 seemed to complety fix the issue for me. But that's all I use it for and the lockworks. I use gun oil on everything else.. But like I said I'm stuck in my ways.. I'll have ot look into TWB25 and check it out too.. George

I put another 100 rounds through mine today, and I also have noticed a little drag since new. But as of 1000 rounds today, have no issues with federal, blazer, CCI, or Remington. Time to go home and clean her up.

I think the magic number is 2000. I have about 1500 or so through mine and with the Seal 1 there is no drag or sticky feeling to the slide. I'm not pushing Seal 1 it just worked for this one issue I had.. I think Frog lube would also work but have not tried it.. George

Our first M&P 22 has seen 400 rounds. Has been absolutely smooth since day 1. I did two of the Frog Lube "warm gun" treatments prior to firing. I don't have a basic for comparison since the first M&P 22 was our first handgun and I probably wouldn't even have tried the slide in the LGS. Took it home, took it apart, cleaned and lube. I'm hoping/expecting to have the same result with this second representation.

Our M&P 9 and M&P 40 have been flawless with the Frog Lube as well.

Just to close out this thread: picked up the M&P 22 today. Did two applications of frog lube paste (with heat) removing all excess after each treatment. The slide is now very smooth: no increase in drag whatsoever as the slide is operated. Maybe it's a case of two much grease from the factory.

Not really because the manual tell you too clean it before shooting it.. There should be no factory grease in it..Wipe it dry oiled lightly beak in some.. 1000+ rounds with 2000 being the better number. I want light wear at this point to set things and mate things. Then I use whatever supper lube I want and I only use one drop of it " Seal1" on top of the hammer.. Keep us up to date on how this gun breaks in..and runs! Thanks! George

Understood: I'm just surprised that the liberal application of grease would actually produce the drag. The gun performed flawlessly today. Sights need adjusting so I'll get that taken care of my next time at the range. I'm looking forward to being able to warm up the the 22 on the "cheap", cheap being a relative term given ammo costs.
