I just picked up a new M&P 40c and I was pumped. I love the feel of it, it points natural for me, feels great in the holster and conceals well too. I've been looking for a compact double stack for a while and feel that I have finally got "the one". It all comes down to how she shoots.

Well, I got to take her out and run a few (50) rounds through it this past Sunday. Out of 50 rounds, I may have had 30 that ran right. It was a %40 - %50 fail rate. FTF's one right after the next. Man, I was a little disappointed. I come home and did a search for M&P 40c jamming and found that I'm not the only one with this situation and it seems to be the junky Perfecta 170gr rounds that are the problem. I saw several people that were having the same problems with that ammo in all kinds of pistols. S&W's, Rugers, Glocks, etc. I felt a lot better after seeing those posts. I read posts of inaccuracy, weak rounds and constant FTF's. I had the same problems. I have a feeling she'll run right with anything else. I haven't been able to try anything else in it yet, but it has some 180gr Federal and 165gr WWB coming it's way soon.

I never had a problem with Perfecta in 9mm, never tried it in 40. Let us know how it goes with the other ammo.

I haven't had any problems with it in 9mm either. I see where the 45 guys say they haven't either. The problem child seems to be the 170gr 40 cal rounds.

I bought the 40c back in August of 2015. So far it has run WWB, Geco, Blazer Brass, and Speer Lawman. All ran flawlessly and at this point it has about 600 rounds through it and not a single problem. I've never used Perfecta ammo before and don't really intend to. Give the new ammo you have ordered a try and let us know how that goes.

Sorry to hear your first range visit was no good but glad it seems to be ammo related. I can tell you that I have the 9c, 357c and 40c. None of them have given me any problems at all. As a matter of fact I had the 357c at the range today and I shoot that gun really well.

As for ammo I load all my own so I can't speak for factory brands but in my 40's I load exclusively 165gr for both my M&P and my Shorty. I do recall when I first bought my 40c I got a free box of WWB 165gr and it worked fine. You shouldn't have problems with any weight bullet from quality ammo.

I'm confident your gun is good to go but just didn't like that ammo for some reason. That many failures is very odd. Let us know how it goes.

I usually call BS on ammo caused FTF, especially on a brand I love to buy in 9mm. But after a Google search for Perfecta 40S&W feed issues I have to say that it appears more folks have problems with this particular round than don't! Seems it would be obvious to the naked eye what this ammo's issue is?

I'm the same way. I don't make excuses for pistols. They either work or they don't. I'm kind of like you, after seeing several people having problems with this ammo, I feel that it'll run with anything else. The problems that everyone else were describing were the exact problems I was having. I shoot Perfecta 9mm in my CZ at USPSA matches and have never had one issue, but like you said, after a Google search, the .40 seems to be a problem child. I saw where other folks said that the 170gr Fiocchi is to be avoided like a plague. There must be something to the 170gr thing.

I've had my 40c for 16 months and have put over 5700 rounds through it. My only problem out of all of those was a single failure to feed, which may have been caused by a poorly loaded round. I've only used top grade ammo in it (Speer Lawman 180g for practice), because it's my everyday carry, and I don't want to have any problems when I pull the trigger.

I was able to get out this past weekend and run some 180gr Federal through it...... everything went exactly as it is suppose to. It ran %100. I have a feeling it was the Perfecta ammo after finding several others with the same problem. I feel confident in the gun, but will run several other types through it to be sure. So far, so good.

MAN them are some UUUGLY Pics! I'm glad to know you've got it covered and good to have the knowledge about that ammo! Thanks.

I would say it's the ammo. I had the same problem with Perfecta in my 40c. However, my 40 full size doesn't have any problems with the Perfecta. 9, 380 Perfecta seem to work well in other guns too. It's just the Perfecta in the 40c that I've had a problem with.

Enjoy the 40c, I love mine!
