mostly a 1911 guy, but i'm slowly being tractor-beamed in by these M&Ps:). this is my 3rd one, already own a 5" 9 pro and a 9compact. the pro has the Apex USB, and the 9c has the whole DCAEK.

i've already ordered the DCAEK for this one. the trigger is fairly horrible! scratchy takeup and the break is prob around 8-9 lbs. i spent an hour or so dry-fireing with snap caps today after a stip and cleaning, and i've loaded the mags so they can sit overnite before going to the range tomorrow.

if this one runs good, it'll be my new HD weapon, replacing an older internal extractor SIG P220 that i traded straight across for the M&P. i know i took a bath on the deal, but i was never very fond of the SIG anyway:mad:

big unexpected bonus was this 45 fits perfectly into a blackhawk serpa holster i have for the 9 pro!!

I have been looking at the ''plastic'' guns too. Took me awhile to cross the river but I put a Gen 3 Glock 23 in lay-a-way.For under $500 thought it was time to try one. Good luck with your new pistolla.

Gen 3 Glock 23

The Glock 23 was the second gun that I purchased since I came down with gun fever. I have since joined the M&P camp. I have a FS 45 for home defense next to the bed. 9mm Pro Series two-tone for range time , and a M&P 40C for future CC. Like the M&P's alot but won't be selling that G23 anytime soon.:)

I still have a couple of Glocks, and I thought I shot pretty well with them until I tried an M&P. I feel like I'm shooting a laser with these things, and really like the grip and pointability. I haven't had any issues with the trigger, but I am also largely a DA revolver guy.

fired this thing for the first time today. 120 rounds total; 100 WWB 230 grain and 20 Gold Dot 230 grain.

not enough to be much of a reliability test, but every round fed, chambered, fired and ejected perfectly. accuracy was OK, the heavy trigger was killing me in that department. i'm used to 1911s and Apex equiped M&Ps.

what i'm most happy about is the lack of malfuctions:)........i hate malfunctions:mad:

My full size 45 has gone over 5,000 rounds since I bought it in March 2009 with no malfunctions what so ever. I was a die hard Glock shooter. This one fits my hand and points better than a Glock. Plus, in 45 ACP, the magazines are not as bulky as the G21s when you're trying to carry concealed.

just finished installing the DCAEK which really cleaned/lightened up the trigger action! now it's the same as my other M&Ps:D

looking forward to firing this thing in the next couple of days.

a little update if anyone is interested.

i have put a few hundred rounds through this one since the Apex parts were installed. on wednesday, i emptied an entire 250 round "value pack" of American Eagle 230 gr FMJ ammo:)

the pistol has also digested 80 rounds of 230 gr Gold Dot defensive ammo.

not a single malf of any kind. accuracy is very good and it shoots to POA with both FMJ and Gold Dot. i'm a happy camper:)

I picked up a M&P 40 just before Christmas and just bought a full size 45 yesterday. It should be here mid next week. Won't get rid of my 3rd Gen TSW's but the M&P will definately be riding on my hip at work.

I am a die hard 1911 and will continue to use one for carry. I am headed to the range tonight to try an M&P and a Glock for the range. I plan to get one or the other for range use in either 9mm or .40. Ammo cost is an issue so this makes some sense.

After holding the M&P and reading the posts in this forum I am leaning towards one of these. I am looking forward to some range time tonight.

Always nice to hear of another flawless M&P range report. My 40C trigger was fantastic right out of the box. My 9C and 45C, not so much. The addition of the Apex Tactical hard sear and ultimate striker block in both of them fixed that. All three of them are a ton of fun to shoot. I think I enjoy each of them equally as much as my Kimber Ultra CDP II and my Kahr PM9.

Curious what you thought. Was in same boat and ended up with several m&ps in 9 and 45.

I rented a Flock 19 and the M&P 9 base model 4.25".

I like it better than the Glock. With the glock I had 2-3 mixtures. I pulled the trigger and nothing. I attributed it to the glock safety but it was a range gun. Overall the M&P is nice and I will probably get the 9. I do want to try the Springfield XD to be sure but this is at the top of my list.

thanks

Another die-hard 1911 fan here, and usually carry that almost everyday. However, just before retirement, I assisted in testing the M&P .45 for my agency. It beat our old 3rd-gen 4566 in every category, and was adopted after I left.

Fast-forward a few years, and courtesy of the LGS where I work p/t, I got sent to S&W M&P Armorers School. Learned quite a bit more about the design, and was even more impressed. It is now the only polymer-frame pistol I carry, selecting the mid-size (4") .45 with the manual thumb safety, positioned in that familiar 1911-ish location.

Are there other good plasti-pistols out there? Of course there are. And there's not much wrong with any of the more successful designs such as Glock, Springer XD's, Beretta Px4's, etc. But to me, they're about as interesting as a very nice basin wrench.
