I was just looking at the new handcuff catalog and couldn't help but be interested in the new Lever Lock cuffs. Seems like a much easier way to double lock. Has anyone handled or used them? I'm wondering if it's worth replacing my regular Model 100s.

lever locks

I have handled them at the gun store I work at. I would strongly recommend that you try them at a store before you buy some. A lot of people, myself included, don't see any advantage to the different lock and have a bit of a hard time finding the little lever. YMMV

I am not a LEO so my experience with them is only as an enthusiast/collector. That being said...I like them. They are very fast and easy to double lock and the locking lever seems to be as out of the way as possible to help prevent locking them unintentionally.

The locking levers are spring loaded so they tuck back into place after you use them. On my set one of the springs was hung up and the lever would flop around freely after I double locked it. I spent quite a while freeing up the spring but it works great now. I could have sent them back for replacement but the tinkerer in me took over.

I always thought double locking was just a way to be nice to cooperative arrestees.

I would recommend them to anyone. I have a set. They work great. Easy to double lock.

I'll have to give them a look-see next time in a cop-shop. The video didn't give a clear picture of the locking device itself.

I have a set of M-100s and they look cheesy in comparison to the set of S&W cuffs I was issued when I was sworn in . . . these don't have a model number on them and are fitted very smoothly.

Maybe it's because I own a pair and know what to look for that I thought that video showed the locking lever quite nicely. If you got to S&W.com's handcuff section ( Handcuffs - Smith & Wesson ) there is a PDF of the handcuff catalog and that shows a good close up of the lever.
