New M&P purchase

I just picked up a pre-owned M&P (1.0) in 40 S&W.
The gun looks new. I can't see any finish wear or smilies on the barrel. It came in the original box with 3 palm swells, 3 magazines, owners manual and a test casing.
Is there any way to tell if it's a LE trade? It wasn't advertised as such, but I'm curious.

I picked up one of these a few years ago and at a very good price. At that time I was told it was LE because of the 3 magazines. Mine has never given me any problems and it's scary accurate. I designated it my "travel gun". I take it with me in a special backpack on trips to other states. In the truck or in the hotel it's always there. Enjoy your new Smith

I agree the 3 mags is an indicator. To be honest, I would say the vast majority of full size M&P 1.0's that were chambered in .40 were dedicated leo guns.

The label on the side of the box shows a SKU of 209300, however, there's a rather large label on the bottom of the box that shows a different SKU.

While the SKU may indicate the product was produced for sale to LEAs, that doesn't insure that it was eventually SOLD to an LEA. Or, for that matter, to an individual LEO. LEA sales are generally handled by dedicated LE sales personnel and are routed through a local police supply who's a stocking dealer.

In case you haven't yet, searching on the 209300 shows a lot of hits.

The factory S&W label will also have the date code. It may be a 4 or 6 digit number. Six digits are the "normal" date. Four digits are the Julian date with the First digit the year, and the last 3 the day of the year. I see the date on the bottom label so the dates should be close. The spent case should also have the date on the envelope. That's the date of firing so there may be a few days difference.

The second label on the bottom may be from the distributor of the FFL.

I was also wondering about the box. It is a somewhat large black box with the S&W M&P logo. Most of what I've seen are blue.

I just recently sold 3 unissued LE Trade In M&P's. I kept 1 of the 4 I originally bought (unissued Detroit PD). I had to thin out the herd.

I would have liked to have gotten a LE marked M&P, but all I could find was one in 45 ACP, and it didn't come in a box so I passed on it.
The date on the envelope that had the spent shell casing had 06/2010 marked on it.

I believe the Julian date is first digit year, then last three day of year. So a Julian date of 2182 would be the 182nd day of 2022, 2012, or 2002. Of course the M&P wasn't around in 2002 so that's out, and I doubt they were making 1.0's in 2022, so it would be 2012.

With the 3rd Gen guns, the year digit of 9 could be 1989 or 1999, so I just look at features of the gun. A squared trigger guard would indicate 1989. MIM trigger and hammer would indicate 1999.

That really does not look like a factory label, but more like a distributor add-on label.

The factory label is usually on the end of the box, not the top lid or bottom.

The 209300 is the actual S&W SKU Number. Here is the S&W archive specs on your pistol.

It was shipped with only two mags and standard sights. I do not believe it was a LE model as the LE models usually had a SKU starting with a "3," if I recall.

I was really interested in a trade-in that was department marked.
Also, whether or not my Smith is LE or not, I'm very happy with the condition it's in considering what I paid for it.

case in point, I bought a Beretta 96G Police Special Vertec, brand new last month...(3 mags also, so I guess that's a pre-requesite for LE). The gun was built in 2002 and was never issued...got it for a steal, but that's another story for another forum!
