So hello all, I just received my M&P 9 shield from my ffl today and first impressions of the gun is wow. I received the gun when I sent in my old first generation sw9m in for work, they then called me and told me they could send me an sd9 or an mp shield. Well it was an easy choice. One question, I am looking for a holster for it, I like iwb holster but want a hard holster so I don't have to fiddle with getting it back in after a draw. I'm a heavy set guy and I have a cheap generic nylon holster that will do the job but not as well as I would like. Are there any you could recommend, I am trying to stay under $50 if possible.

I built an old faithful from a kit and it was under $50. It's nice, but due to the spacers between the kydex and leather, it can pinch closed making holstering slightly more difficult. I have a crossbreed for larger pistol (which I barely carry since getting a shield) and it doesn't suffer from this issue as the kydex is riveted to the leather. It's also about $30 more.

Other than that minor complaint, I'd recommend Old Faithful.

Oh, and enjoy your shield - it's an amazing gun.

Actually, the Crossbreed "mini-tuck".
Perfect home for the Shield.

+1 for the Old Faithful IWB. I carry my 9c in it with no problems.

Remora "RFT" (Reinforced Top) No Clip Holster. Remora is having a 20% of sale through 3/31 with coupon code "shamrock20". The model for the Shield is 6ART "RFT" for $30 minus the discount. These holsters are so versatile and inexpensive, I think it's a no-brainer to have one. And if you find you want something more substantial like a Crossbreed, you'll have money left in the bank to put towards it later. I've tried two different hybrid holsters and I've gone back to the Remora for my every day carry because it is more comfortable and concealable.

$55 and about $7 shipping. This holster is JUST AS GOOD as a Galco, and roughly half the price. They have a model for the Shield.

I recently ordered the 6ART for my Shield, but the holster I received is too big. The one they sent me is labeled 6ART, but actually looks like the series 4 holster. The package label for the holster I received says this holster is for "Large Frame Semi-Autos", listing the M&P compact as one of the pistols it is designed for with no mention of the Shield. I didn't get the reinforced top, so that may be the difference.?. Maybe just a mistake in the size chart on the web site.?.

I sent an email to their customer service about my problem and Mike called me back a couple days later and asked if he could send me a holster that was custom made for the Shield. Hopefully there won't be an extra charge for the custom holster. Should get it tomorrow, guess I'll find out then. Other members on this forum having similar issues with the size of the Remora Shield holster were sent custom Shield holsters and were very happy with the results. One thing is certain, Remora has excellent customer service.

I have the non-reinforce 6ART and would say it is a great fit for the Shield. I have seen a Remora custom made for the Shield that I liked better because it did not cover the mag release and provided more material extending all the way to the rear of the gun on the side facing the wearer, but the 6ART is working fine for me. Here's mine.

I have to give a plug for Tommy Theis Holsters.

Identical in form function and quality to Crossbreed. Tommy's customer service is unsurpassed! He's cheaper and quicker than Crossbreed, offers options on the clips and includes the combat cut. He'll also customize work for you.

I've always been a fan of Milt Sparks Horsehide VM2, but I've been carrying my Kahr K40 in Tommy's horsehide holster for a year and it is the most comfortable holster I've used. I need to order another one myself for my new 40 Shield.

I went with a Highnoon Bare Asset. Leather. Takes 2 hands to reholster, but to me that's no big deal. The shield doesn't need much of a holster. It's pretty thin. I go to hybrids for bigger weapons. That's just my thoughts though. I know people that do comptacs and super tucks for everything. To each his own.

Check out Foxx holsters. I just got a kydex one from them and love it so far. It's nice and thin and stays open for reholstering. it has a two-week money-back guarantee. And a lifetime guarantee, don't like it or something goes wrong, they'll make it right. I buy around warrantees anymore, helps me determine cs and that they stand behind their products.

Goldie Locks Remora Shield Holsters

Well I got my replacement Remora holster today. It's like Goldie Locks and the three bears over here. The first one they sent was too big, the "Custom" holster they sent today was too small.

Ransom, looks like you got the holster that was just right, the perfect fit.

Think I'll just send 'em both back and try another vender. Sorry the pics are upside down, still trying to figure out new phone.

Remora Follow Up

Meant to add a pic of "Custom" Shield holster package. Notice the name on the package, "Custom Shiled." It's actually a 4ART, not a custom holster. Another thing I noticed is that when I push my pistol all the way into the 4 ART holster, it pushes the slide back about a 1/4 of an inch.

So, they sent me a smaller holster and told me it was a "Custom" Shield holster. All Remora's have the size written inside the top of the holster. Did they think I wouldn't look? I can forgive an honest mistake, but nobody likes to be lied to. So much for their customer service.

Here is my Shield in a Remora Holster, it has the right side sweat shield, and the reinforced top. Model 3B, it does not cover the mag release.
