hello everyone i am just putting an introduction up after reading this forum for some time.
I am in the uk it has taken me a year to complete my section 5 which means i have now got my first hangun.
after talking to someone from usa on my hunting forum i ended up with a 686 smith and after a short wait because i had to import from germany she is finally here and wow i am very impressed.
I am so glad i listened as it is a pleasure to use and have just started the process for casting and have jumped straight in and reload for it also. I am currently shooting a number of rifles in .270 and .300 win and now a proud owner of .357 686 so a big hello from me and mrs smith :D ,atb wayne

Welcome from the People's Republik of Kolorado, a division of Kommiefornie, inc.

Just curious, what's involved in completing section 5 and owning a handgun in the UK? I thought it was all but impossible these days. Does it have to be stored at a club?

Very nice 686, by the way. I've got a 4 inch model myself!

its a long process and like any firearm in the uk we have to have good reason to posses.
I am a deerstalker in the uk and use a dog for follow up in thick cover where a rifle is not good.
I also do dispatch work for deer on the roadside so again another good reason but i have joined a pistol club in IOM also to practice as i was not old enough to poses a handgun pre prohibition although i can remember my father target shooting pistols when i was young.
the 686 is with me not at a club but i have heavy security and i have to log my usage but i have also got it to hunt abroad and hopefully will be tracking in europe with the hound when fully trained, atb wayne

Interesting - when deer and elk hunting here in the People's Republik, I tend to carry my Redhawk .44 mag as a backup as well. It's almost necessary here with wolves, cougars, bobcats, and bears running around our mountains along with the tasty deer and elk!

Thanks for that i would like to here more stories of your hunting i have hunted in the glasiers of newzealand and driven boar in france. i have more trips planned but to justifie good reason the aboad hunting is secondary and we dont have preditors in the uk, this means to get pistol/revolver the cal is restricted to .32 but if you are shooting larger species after the good reason has been granted then you can argue to a larger cal .357 being what my area force was willing to go to and until i can show good reason this will stay, after i have had it for some time and maybe hunting further afield i can swap for 44 as at the moment i have not been granted use for boar as yet but i am going in small steps as its taken so long. the reason i have not been granted boar is in the uk boar are hunted at night so till i have done further use with the 686 they won't add it to my cert. I have been getting NRA instruction in the IOM and will be going back for further range time.

Welcome from Wisconsin!

I have an internet friend who is in the Royal Army & is a native of Liverpool. He's told me about the draconian gun laws in the UK. Another Soldier from Ireland & it's much of the same. My sympathies. We have plenty of politicians who are trying to Europeanize our Nation along with the gun laws & health care & it's enough to make us shudder. My UK & Irish friends urge us to fight that every inch of the way.

Thank you all for a warm welcome and i hope to participate in the forum I don't have much experience with handguns but this is now to change and i can show you how we hunt in the uk and europe in driven hunting, atb wayne
