Late 1951 to Early 1952 Pre 27 Smith And Wesson...

This is what the Model 27 Became...Some people call it the Post War 357 magnum...

The Stocks are not original..they should be Diamond Magna Stocks

The Gold lettering was done after Shipment by the factory...

This is considered a 5 screw...4 screws on the side plate (1 under the grip) and 1 screw on the front of the trigger guard...

Looks like a Solid Nice Revolver..With the non original Stocks It is worth 800-1200 depending on who wants it..

Hope this Helps...

With the age of this revolver and being a 5 screw it should be in the section above this one...

Thanks very much, appreciate knowing a whole lot more than I did before.

Is it for sale? If so, I think you could put an even higher asking price on a pre-27 than jjbrewst1 mentioned.

S&W revolver prices are appreciating right now, and we may be at the top of the market. So that is why I asked if you were selling, someone would want it as it looks to be in nice condition.

Do you shoot it all? If so how does she perform?

Don't think I ever saw one this old with the red ramp front sight.
Was that a catalog item or special order?

I'm over in York county and getting ready to do some range work , It's been a long winter. That gun looks like it could use a trip to the range. Good to have you here on the fourm the most informative source for Smith & Wesson products in the world. With the exception of Mr Jinks. He's here too I forgot.

Welcome aboard from Michigan. Beautiful 357, full target, RR and WI sights too. Just like I like them.
If you really want to make friends here quickly, you'd sell me that gun.

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks everyone, appreciate the welcome.

It's a 6" barrel, and while friends are nice, please remember the old New England adage - Strong fences make good neighbors. So, I'll hold onto this 357 Magnum.

In my experience the only guns worth selling are the one's that don't like you - i.e. a Ruger Security Six, in .357 mag with a 2.5" barrel .... darn near caused a forest fire with the muzzle flash from that beast.
