Hello everyone,

In the past, I have shot revolvers here and there. Most of them Tarus or another generic wheel gun so I always just thought of them as just another redneck hunting division. Until about a week ago when I shot a few different Smith and Wesson's at my range side by side with yet another Tarus.
After I picked my jaw up off the ground (the S&W "Super Tuned" trigger is smoooooooth and crisp! and accurate! with cheap range ammo!!!) I realized that I have been blind my whole life:o.
Fear not S&W fans for now I have seen the light, and that light is the flames shooting out of the front of my brand new S&W 686P 6" "Supertuned" .357mag :D!
I look forward to learning alot from this forum and buying a 4" to serve as a more practical carry weapon than my 6".
Now I come to my question. I am looking for a decent shoulder or hip holster that i can take to the range or take hiking with me and not break the bank. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

For hiking and hunting I like the Hunter 1100-66 for my 4" 686. Paid $33.95 for mine at Midway a couple of weeks ago.

Here's another vote for Simply Rugged...my 6" 686+ in a "Loaded Pancake":

I like this one. Gould & Goodrich 3 slot pancake. They still make one in brown for the 586/686. (MSRP $65) This is on a 4" Model 19. It won't be the prettiest one shown but it's a solid holster that will last for years. I got this last year & it carries well & wears well. I have one of theirs for a Glock (I know, the horror! What can I say?The dept. insisted.) that I have carried since 1996 and it is still tight and unmarked.

Shoulder Holsters

Before I got my Galco Miami Classic MC-244 for my 5903, I carried and used the Bianchi X-15M (Medium, for 4" revolvers and 4"-5" semi-automatics), and also had a Bianchi 2100 Shoulder Holster. You can often find the X-15's inexpensively on flea-bay. Your local dealer may have a used holster box. If you don't see one, ask. X-15L (Large, is for 6" revolvers). -Ed.

Thank you everyone especially those who took the time to post pics and make suggestions. So far it seems that the Simply Rugged gets the vote. I'll be sure to post pics of whatever i go with. As for now, it turns out that the Uncle Mikes (another wise suggestion from the community) that I had used for my Buckmark 22 holds the pistol alright. But it's not a perfect fit and using it cause my Buckmark to become homeless so a replacement is a must.
