I have finally decided to get back into target shooting (mostly plinking) and after lots of research I have chosen the M&P 15-22. Everything I have read points to this being the best dedicated AR style 22lr. Ordered model # 811033. It is also the closest thing to what the Marine Corps gave me a long time ago.

While waiting on Santa, I have made several purchases that are waiting in my closet. I think I have made some good choices based a great deal from what I have discovered in this forum.

Here is a list of the accessories (please critique as needed)

MidwayUSA Rifle Case
11- 25 round magazines
4 - 10 round magazines (short)
NcStar 2-7x29 Scope
Inforce WML Weapons Light
Crimson Trace Rail-Master Laser Sight
Midwest Industries Sling Adapter MCTAR-30
Custom Gun Rails 9/11 Memorial Flag (Rail Mounted)

Magpul Stuff...
AFG2 Forearm Grip
RSA (Rail Sling Attachment)
Gen II folding sights
STR Stock
MS3 Sling
XTM Rail Panels

Lots of Rounds!
CCI Mini-Mag 40g CPRN
CCI Tactical
Winchester M-22

The only thing left is an EoTech XPS2 which I hope to order sometime after Christmas. Oh, and possible a Kimber Rimfire Target to get in some handgun practice.

The forum here has been a wealth of information, and hopefully I can share some pictures soon, and whatever I learn.

Wow looks like you've been good this year... All kidding aside welcome from Texas... this fourm is a great place... welcome agin...

Im hoping your going to take this comment in the way its intended.
Im sitting here chuckling while reading your list.
But, here goes.
Your going to have a very expensive "plinker" when you are done.
Im sorry, but when I hear of a "plinker" I envision a used Ruger 10-22 and see a guy in his back yard shooting cans with his kids.
Guess, your idea of a plinker is different then mine? But what the heck!
Go for it and glad to have you here !

Very expensive "plinker" is okay. Going through the picture thread, there seem to be quite a few of them, with some probably costing more than what I have spent.

In addition to the Marine Corps, I spent several years as a U.S. Army Military Police Officer and loved it. Now, I just want to get back into shooting again with something that reminds me of my military time. (The Kimber Rimfire Target seems to be a very nice 1911-22, which will bring back some old Marine Corps memories)

I don't have many hobbies right now, as I am still recovering from a serious work accident. Two more surgeries remain before getting back to normal (been operated on three times already).

Honestly, I am looking at the long-term cost much more than the up front expense. 22lr ammo is still very inexpensive, and the cost savings over the first year when compared to .223 would cover the cost of the "toys."

Part of this is also a gift to myself for some fun once the next two operations are over with. I haven't done much for a very long time, and I deserve to spoil myself a little.

I don't know about Weddington, but I did spend some time at Camp Lejeune and thought the area was beautiful.

Do some reviews of the RSA. I have one, don't care for it. The angel of it's bend can make the sling attachment jam against the rail and you cannot always mount it close to your front BUIS - which you might want to do - as it can bind against it. Love their stuff, but not this piece so much. it really limits you to only the MS slings to some degree, I no like that limitation. Plus, it just seems rather bulky for what it does. I have DD and FAB Defense front sling mounts I think are more over-all useful.

Sounds like a great list of goodies!

Pretty sure you're going to love it. I just got mine about 2 weeks ago and already have almost 2500 rounds through it. Totally addictive.

I'm lusting after an EXPS 2.0 myself, but just couldn't bring myself to do it given that I'd probably need to throw in the magnifier for anything over 25 yards. Some day though.

Well... I will have to experiment with the RSA and MS3 QD sling to see how it works. If I need to try something else, the RSA cost was not that much.

Also let me know how those Winchester M22's work for you. I've gone through about 700 rds of my 2000 rds, and had several FTF's and FTE's. I've had no trouble with the CCI though. I just picked up 525 rds of Blazer to try out. We'll see how those are.

Welcome. I'm new too, and like you, am waiting for Santa. Actually it will probably be a few days later, but still, waiting on a new piece.

Thanks for all the welcome wishes! Hopefully Santa is on time.

Another surgery on January 3rd, and the last one (I hope!) will be sometime in March. After that, it's physical therapy time.

The 15-22 is "mental therapy" to assist in recovery.

No, I probably don't need a laser, but I've never had one, and it could be fun to play with for awhile.

Freeway, no offense intended.
Appreciate your service time, ex mil myself.
Hope you are well soon and enjoy your 15-22.

Lager,

No offense taken!

The change from the Marine Corps to the Army was an experience. While the Army did things differently, many of those I served with would have made $%&# fine Marines!

Your military time is also appreciated.

Wow that's a heck of a parts list, you don't mess around!

Welcome to the forum and I hope you have a speedy recovery after your surgery.

Much of the "parts list" came from going through every post in this forum!

Thank you for the show of support! :)
