Turned on my computer this AM and the page was blocked by a full page from Microsoft, apparently forcing me to Continue and accept them linking my computer to my phone and more, although they forgot to add my thigh bone, ha!

I escaped and got a 3 day delay by clicking a button, but then they'll be back with the same demand.

Is this something we're all going to have to accept?

Does the added complexity represent new threats, them spying?

Just continue to the next page, then decline the offer of new features. No big deal.

Edit: BTW, this linkage between digital platforms is something Apple has done for years, and the convenience is one of the reasons many people like it.

My work laptop took the Edge download last night.

This AM I needed a file and it took half an hour to install and do its thing before it would open Word... errr!

I just hit skip this step over all the questions. That machine does really see internet duty, ok, zoom ;)

Are Apple users especially vulnerable to identity theft?

Um, no. We pat ourselves on the back about Apple's superior privacy security.;) (Which is one of the reasons, BTW, they are behind Google and Amazon in AI assistants. They scarf up, and spread, less personal data around. Or so I read anyway. Not sure where Microsoft is in that mix. Other than occasional Skype for phone calls, have not used Microsoft in years.)

Now, I'm confused. Is her advice in post no. 2 the right answer?

I can't afford to err.

I have actually managed to delink my MacBook, iPad and iPhone so that calls etc are not all picked up on multiple devices.

Phone is for calls, texting and checking e-mails/FB on the go.

iPad is for checking news, FB and a few other online items plus playing games.

MacBook is for watching TV online, saving e-mails, formatting documents and for typing things I want not to have the auto correct mistakes.

But I do feel the better security offerred by the fruit company on their products via regualr updates.

I don't want to sound paranoid but I am not a proponent of sharing personal information.

If I am applying for a loan, licensing a vehicle, hunting and fishing license, valid needs etc. are fine.

Some people nowadays exuberantly post for the entire world to see, every miniscule detail including photos of how their day is going and what their feelings are.

I wonder if they are the same ones yammering with friends or doing cell phones during movies.

I have my iPhone linked to my Mac but am going to un-link it. If I am doing anything on the computer it will lock it up until the phone stops ringing. It is very annoying if I am playing a timed game.

T-Star, from reading her posts, BWZ is quite knowledgeable about computers. I would trust her advice. Plus, she is a Microsoft and PC user, which I am not, so her advice for you is better than anything I am able to come up with. (I only use IOS — an iPad and an iPhone — these days. Don't even know how my wife's Mac works, which annoys her...;))

Just turned on my Win Desktop.
Don’t see it, it most likely Browser related.
I’m using FoxFire that’s probably why I’m not seeing it.
I bet TS is using a Microsoft Browser.
Sounds like you can scroll down and opt out.

I hate acknowledging any ads or pop-ups or whatever, so I take my time and look for an "X" to close it out. Sometimes there is one. Other times you can do a right-click on the tab and close it out that way. Another option is to press ALT + F4.

In worst case I close out all tabs and start over. Then I'll run Norton live update and run a quick scan.

Sounds over the top but I've been victim to ID theft as well as a virus or worm and my PC was compromised.

Stupid people are vulnerable and if that includes Apple users then the answer is yes.

And where is most identity theft occurring? Outside the home anywhere with public WiFi.

My computer is secure. Whenever I do business involving personal info I close the browser when done and even reboot the computer. If I'm doing personal business outside the home I will probably remember what I need to know or have it written down. Allowing multiple devices access to all of your information is like locking the front door when you leave your home but leaving the back door unlocked.

One's security should never be left solely in the hands of someone who is more interested in your money and less concerned with your privacy.
