New Model 66-3 owner!

Hogue uses the Monogrip attachment that adds a stirrup to the bottom of the grip frame. You then slide the stock up the grip frame from the bottom. When it is positioned just right there is a screw hole that you poke the screw into so that it can be tightened into the stirrup. The no screw in the side of the stock looks great but for my taste is just adds too much length to the grasping area of the stock. Also, the smooth version that I tried was very slick. I would buy one with checkering next time. The level of fit and finish was very good though so I would say it was very high quality. I just couldn’t get beyond the “boomerang” look it gave the gun. But then I tried it on a four inch 19, so it gave it a very bottom heavy look. The proportions might look better on a six inch full lug gun like a 686, but on a shorty 66 I wouldn’t think it would look right at all. But that is just me.

Thanks, I'll rule the Hogue out.

Really dislike the stock grips after taking it to the range Friday. I discovered the rear sight was screwed all the way down so it shot very low. I brought a screwdriver today adjusted the sights and put some rubber Hogues on it as a temp measure since they were the only grips available at the gun shop and were cheap. I see what you mean about the extra length these grips add to the gun.

I'm new to revolvers, how do you guys hold your thumbs? I was locking down my strong hand thumb with my support hand thumb. I need to work on flinching (already using the empty chamber trick) and holding a steady follow thru as this thing's hammer takes longer to fire than the striker fired auto's I've been shooting.

Good looking gun. Congratulations on finding it. I noticed the Trading Post in your last photo, were you able to get it from a local ad?
I also have the same problem with the small grips on my K frames, so I have stuck with the larger wood or the Hogues.

I had been looking in the Trading Post but found this on VaGunTrader.com.

New grips thanks to Sportsterguy!

They look great together Rick and that post was quick! Think you will love them for shooting that beauty, even with .357's. I don't use rubber on any carry weapon as they tend to snag on clothing, but are great for comfortable range sessions.

Deal with Rick with complete confidence folks. He's a good man, especially for being a retired squid:).

Thanks for the grips and conversation Roger. Folks you can deal with Sportsterguy with complete trust even though he is a retired shallow water sailor ;-)
