I bought my first handgun on sunday. A M&P 40 full size. I bought it used in amazing condition for $350. Came with case, 3 mags, holster, and speed loader. I couldnt be happier. Shot 100 rounds at the range on sunday as well. I really need to practice! shooting low left but its because of flinch i believe. I can hit a deer 300 yards with my 30-06 but not a 10 ring at 20'. :D

Nice, congrats on your purchase. Isn't it true that we all need practice! Enjoy.

Good buy! That low left does sound like a flinch. Dry fire and watch the muzzle, until you can dry fire with no muzzle movement. Then take that same trigger pull to the range and duplicate the no muzzle movement, when actually firing. Don't anticipate the point where the trigger breaks, let it be a surprise. Your aim and point of impact should better match up. There is a huge difference in aiming a long gun and a hand gun, with the big difference in the sight radius.

These have a heavy trigger, 7 pounds. That is part of the problem. The heavy trigger with a lot of travel is ALWAYS a surprise when it breaks. I'd suggest getting an apex trigger and NOT being surprised when it breaks. I want to know exactly when it goes bang, I don't want to be surprised with my own gun. It's a combat handgun not a target pistol. I love mine, especially with the new trigger. I typically shoot 1.5" groups at 24', with my reloads.

Low could be due to you putting the top of the front blade on the target. The front "dot" should cover your target. That will bring your shots up. Now you are simply shooting a touch left.

Enjoy your new pistol.

Thanks for the tips. I am going to the range today and will let you know how it goes

I recently got from Buds Police with a 8lbs trigger!!!
The Apex setup brought it down to 5lbs.

Great gun! I've got one which I also bought used from a LEO who bought his back when he was issued a new one. I also have the M&P40C which I recently bought. It's nice that I can use the FS mags in it.

Congrats you got a way better deal then me, i got a used M&P 40c for $460 came with the case and 1 mag no straps..good deal matt.

Good deal, congratulations. Your going to love your forty. I'll take a wild guess that you are right handed. You are probably pushing the gun when you pull the trigger. This is very common and generally caused by a combination of a heavy trigger and too much finger on the trigger. Try placing the first joint or pad of your trigger finger on the trigger and squeeeeze the trigger don't snap or jerk it.
