You folks helped us out with some food & restaurants in another thread. Our flights are booked, time for the hotel/motel now, any help would be appreciated. We are obviously flying in and will not have a car, so would like to be within 1 to 1.5 miles of most activities. My wife is thinking about the Holiday Inn in the French Quarter, it has excellent reviews and seems to be in a pretty decent location but I would like to see if this an accurate observation. If not the Holiday Inn, where would you recommend. We'll be there for 5-6 nights.
P.S. while some partying will be in order, I don't want to listen to them all night long.....
Thanks.

The holiday Inn is right off Canal St. I would not stay there just bacause of the location-nothing dangerous mind you-just that the first block of the quarter off of Canal St. is pretty nothing but service entrances and traffic. Me-I'd stay at the Monteleone Hotel or the Royal Sonesta. Noting wrong with the Holiday Inn mind you-but it's on the edge and is kinda like going to Paris and eating at the Mickey D's. If I was gonna pick between the two listed, I'd go for the Royal Sonesta-right on Bourbon St and pretty centrally located.

Please tell me you are not going Thanksgiving Weekend-that is the absolute worst time to go. Trust me on that one.

Thank you both for this input, I really appreciate it.
We will be there Jan 29th through Feb 3rd.
Going for "PRAWNS" and Gumbo, not turkey :-)

This is great!
I called the Monteleone and they had a special rate for the "Rock & Roll Marathon" that weekend.
I won't be running it however I'll be the guy with a drink in his hand cheering on my wife.

Now, to carry or not to carry????

We stayed at a B&B on St Charles --- It was GREAT :)
The Avenue Inn - Street Cars stop in the front yard.
Way nicer (and quieter) than a hotel....

I usually volunteer to pass out the packets for runners in Rock & Roll Marathon. I should be at the convention center on Friday evening doing that.

Next time you are there, if you plan to stay in the Quarter, consider the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. It is on Bourbon Street but it's one of the quietest segments. Not far from decent dining and the trolley. I stay there when I'm in town on business. Just completed a vacation with the wife and kids and we all stayed there. It's a nice place.

Back in 2001, I stayed here: Holiday Inn French Quarter-Chateau Lemoyne. Nice hotel, a block from Bourbon Street, in the French Quarter. Surprisingly quiet. The rooms are rather small. At least the one I was in, but otherwise nice. No issues walking to/from hotel after dark.
