New Python vs. Model 27-9

Yep. It appears that some would rather have none at all rather than a company that actually wants to produce a quality product.

Points to CZ for not only reinvigorating a storied American brand, but also in having the good sense to keep their name off the product. All that one sees is “Colt’s MFG,” which is as it should be. They’ve also avoided the horrific habit of too many gun companies in defacing their firearms with lawyer-driven warnings and key locks.

40-50 years ago I'd say the S&W M27 was actually a better made more robust and durable revolver than the Python's were back then. Yes, the Colt had the edge on its fit and finish but the M27 was just a better Revolver over the long haul.

Today, I would personally not buy a newly manufactured S&W Revolver because of all the changes they have made in production, material, workmanship and "safety improvements" - not. Today's Python is extremely well made, robust and in IMHO blows the current line of S&W revolvers out of the water. Kills me to say that as I am Smith man at heart - but that's just the way I see it.

Back in the day I had both, kept the 27. It was my first duty weapon.

Today, it's the opposite. Python all the way and you couldn't give me an S&W.

Thanks to the op for posting. Have both, enjoy both.

Have a few Colts, would have more, but at the time I began “accumulating” (mid 90’s); S&W’s were clearly a better value. Now, not as much.

And for the Colt/CZ issue…have you people shot a new Dan Wesson 1911?

I’d be curious to know why the double action pull was on the python. There seem to be some out there that are lis than 8,lbs and some that have occasional light primer strikes. From my limited experience once you get below 8lbs 8 oz you have to use federal primers for 38 special and even the Federal Mag primers can be spotty in 357.

I have the new Python, but my model 27 is a dash two -- not a new one. The new Python does indeed have a better double action trigger pull, and even though folks complain about the single action trigger, to me it feels just as good as the Smith. Maybe I just got a good one. Wilson Combat front and rear sights on the Python make a huge improvement over the stock Colt sights. If I had to get rid of one or the other, I couldn't choose.

As far as the CZ-era Dan Wesson 1911, I believe they are a great value for the money. Talk about a great trigger!

CZ buying Colt was the best thing that could have happened to that shadow of a once great company.
