I ordered my first autoloader in years today, a full-size Smith & Wesson M&P .357 Sig. I should have it by Friday and am really looking forward to getting it to the range.

FWIW, my everyday carry gun is a Colt .38 Super Lightweight Commander I converted to Winchester 9x23. I've been intrigued by the .357 Sig ever since its development, but have held out till now to give it a whirl. What caused me to finally take the plunge was the release of Smith's M&P Series. I really like the design and have heard a lot of good things about the platform, so I'm optimistic.

Spend the extra $$ and send it off for a good trigger job. To me. the only bad thing on the M&P series. I had my M&P 45 done and it's almost as good as my 1911s. Worth every penny whether you intend to use it for competition, carry or plinking!!

I'll try it out first and see how the trigger is out of the box. If I'm not happy with it, who is it I should send it off to? Thanks!

There are several guys on the M&P forum who have good reputation. One is a sheriff's deputy whose name is...David Bowie. Bowietactical.com S&W also offers action work specifically geared for the M&P. A few gunsmiths have stated on forums that the M&P has a great trigger to work with. Some claim they can dial in whatever trigger pull weight you would like, down to around 2.5-3 lbs.

As I mentioned in another post...no need for an action/trigger job. Take the money you would have spent on it and buy more ammo. Dry fire it alot! Mine has over 5000 rounds of live ammo and at least that in dry firing and it just keeps on getting better and better. It is now my main match gun for IDPA and USPSA.

Well, I'm not afraid to dry fire and shoot my weapons. I've been doing it for four decades now.

I have 1000 rounds of .357 Sig inbound (500 practice rounds and 500 rounds of Speer 125 gr. Gold Dot LE). That should give me a head start in "tuning" the trigger.

Any comments on the reliability of the M&P Series? What should I expect?

I cannot vouch for others, however my own M&P 40 has over 5000 rounds through it without a failure of any kind. It runs flawlessly with ALL magazines and ALL ammo including some questionable reloads that were given to me. I would say that is reliable to a fault. What else do we ask of our guns....to go bang every time and to be accurate. At least MY M&P is completely reliable for me. I would bet that yours will be also.
Randy

Thanks a bunch for your comments, Randy. That's all I've ever asked of my firearms, i.e., that they go bang every time I pull the trigger and they be reasonably accurate. If my M&P357 gives me that much, I'll be happy.

I have a M&P 357c and I absolutely love it... a great gun.

I did a 45 min trigger job on it and is nearly as good as a custom 1911...

The M&Ps have been totally reliable for me... we have six of them and never had a single malfunction... including the first one with over 2,000 rounds through it... and never even cleaned.

FWIW

I have a M&P 45 and it's my Fav pistol, I think you will be truly pleased with your 357 sig. Easy to carry and even better to shoot. Welcome to the M&P family

Thanks for the welcome, Will.

Less than forty eight hours now!

The NM State Police have adopted the M&P in .357Sig and have had excellent results with it so far. All the guys I know there love them and they have a good record of stopping fights quickly with reasonable hits.

Three places that do excellent M&P triggers are listed below. These are the three that get the most press on the USPSA oriented websites...and those guys tend to be fanatical about good triggers!

Didn't NJSP carry HK P7 or P13 at one time. I had and carried one for years. My only problem was gunsmith with-in driving distance. Navajo Tribal Police carried them for a while. A super accurate pistol, due I guess to the solid barrel.....I still have a P7 psp (the euro version) But repair is still a problem. But what groups!
