I bought it yesterday and ran 150 rounds at the range today; Federal and Winchester 230 ball ammo ran flawlessly.

I was concerned that the lightweight Scandium frame might result in excess recoil but I was pleasantly surprised. It handles and shoots comfortably, very accurate.

Excellent shooter!

Congrats on the new gun!

I found mine just a tad more snappy, but definitely manageable, even for lengthy range trips. Great gun!

Always a good day with a new gun! Not surprised at the 100% performance as mine has been the same. Recoil is more than the 5" steel but that is to be expected as the trade off for carry. Mine is my winter carry 'cause it's 10 oz lighter than the 5". Enjoy!:)

We got one in the store yesterday and I really like the gun but was wondering about the recoil as well as reliability. Read some not so good reviews but maybe they are isolated problems. I'm thinking of getting this gun, feels real good in the hand. How is the accuracy.

Bad reviews? Where?!? I have read 99% good about this gun (can't please everyone) and since I own it I can say it had been 100% reliable...100%! Recoil is fine, like I said in my previous post it is a little more than the 5" all steel but certainly nothing to worry about. Great trigger as a 1911 should have along with quality night sights, titanium firing pin w/o the block and fine looking to boot. IMHO you can't do any better in a 1911 for the money.:)

As for accuracy...one ragged hole at 20ft with 8 rounds.

That's good to hear. I would hope that $1300 would be 100% out of the box. But, reading other forums that is not the case with all of them. There seems to a common theme of S&W 1911 having to go back to the factory. I'm going to wait for more feed back of this gun before I buy. I love the feel looks of the gun but I do not want to sent it back for repair. My last S&W 1911 had to go back twice, it was an early model and I sold it.

Take complaints about guns on the internet with a few grains of salt...people love to complain. Most gun owners aren't on the net and even then most don't post when they like their gun...all is good, not much to say.

In my opinion you can buy this gun with confidence...although you should be able to find one well under $1300, maybe around $1100. In the event you do have a problem (nothing's perfect) Smith has a lifetime warranty. I have two Smith 1911's and they have been great...dare I say "perfect"? If you PM me a cell # I can send you a range picture for accuracy...only have the pic on my phone.

I don't find most of the other gun forums as honest as this one. Too much favoritism. There are other very good 1911's out there...but if this is the one that speaks to you then go with your gut and don't let internet chatter influence you too much.

If I listened to some folks about the Smith K frame revolver I would be missing out on some of my favorite guns! Let us know what you decide.

They sure are nice looking guns. Who make reliable flush mount magazine.

Whoever thought that S&W would someday be making 1911s, and good ones at that. There are a lot of manufacurers making 1911s these days and I regard S&W as one of the better ones. They really nailed it with their E Series pistols that rival any makers 1911s regardless of price. Thw SC Bobtail has to be one of the most attractive 1911s.

I'm sure you can find a flush mount from the usual suspects...Wilson, ect. I didn't care for the mags that came with the bobtail so I bought two more like the originals that came with my 5". I like the followers better in addition to the way it fits the bottom of the grip. You can see the difference in my posted pic vs. the pics of the others...the original mags work fine but I was used to something else.

I haven't looked for flush mags but I'm sure they are available.
