Going into effect April 3, 2022. Described as a "Nonstandard Fee and Dimension Noncompliance Fee." :)

USPS Will Charge You More for This, Starting April 3

"The surcharges start at any package longer than 22 inches, with a $4 fee for any package that exceeds 22 inches in length but is less than 30 inches. For packages over 30 inches in length, the fee goes up to $15. You will also have to pay an additional $15 if your package is greater than 2 cubic feet in volume."

Wait a minute, are you saying the US government has figured a way to take more money out of the pockets of its citizens. That is, indeed, a shocking development. Has this kind of thing ever happened before?

Here in SC us farmers get a tax exemption on certain farm items we buy. Been that way forever...........NOW starting April 1st we have to have a card from the state($24 cost) to get the tax exemption......Those dirt bags found another way to tax us.

Most any packaged long gun w/a non dismountable bbl will hit the $15 surcharge for being over 30" long.

You can usually keep the package under the 2 cubic ft mark to avoid another $15 surcharge, But it's easy to go over if packing well and that's something to keep in mind.
A 40" long x 4" high x 12" width box is 1.11 cubic ft according to my calc.

Potentially $30 in surcharges Plus the actual shipping charges.
It might bring some long gun shipments up in price to meet UPS overnite handgun shipment prices.

Having been pretty good friends with several postal clerks,( had a few cold ones after work) the stories I’ve heard over the years would cause a “ regular business Fail. USPS status as a “ government agency” protected by federal laws is a JOKE. Look at their budget, outlandish cost Overruns and their retirement system is the reason. NO WONDER a first class stamp is $0.50. Basis of this thread is costs of oversized packages, really? Complete MISMANAGEMENT of postal service is the reason yet no congress critter mentions this…

........and their retirement system is the reason.
You got that right. Except for the financial burden of the ruinious 2006 Congressional mandate to pre-fund retirees health benefits, which no other entity does, the P.O. has been profitable.

If USPS would simply raise the rates on junk mail, it could get out of debt and turn a profit in a year's time.

I found out the other day that a registered letter now cost you...............

$7.38

for you to get prof of delivery.

However with the price of gas, now, it might be worth it, if you have to drive a ways.
