Long time lurker, first time poster. I scored this 29-2 on GB recently for $900. I’d been looking for a shooter 4” 29-2 for some time so this fit the bill. It appears to have been well loved and the action is very smooth. Also, I hadn’t seen a serrated red ramp until this one arrived — if it was done aftermarket it appears to be done well.

Any info on the trigger? I compared it to some of the other examples I have here and it appears to be aftermarket.

Thanks!

As far as I know the inserts never came serrated but it looks good. The trigger appears to be factory but smoothed and rounded, exactly like many of us did in years past for duty revolvers and competition shooting. Back in the day all my revolvers had triggers just like yours. It was done for double-action shooting.

You have a very nice looking revolver.

Red ramps were not serrated. Triggers were not polished like that. The factory red ramp was serrated or a replacement installed, and the factory trigger was polished. It looks well done to my untrained eye!

VERY nice revolver and nice “first post”. Welcome to the forum. My 4” 29-2 has a trigger smoothed and rounded similar to yours. Mine has a trigger stop added too. If yours shoots as well as mine you’ll be very happy.

Welcome to the S&W Forums! That is a nice looking 4-inch Model 29-2. No, it's not all-original, the front sight serrations are either an aftermarket item or someone with some skills serrated the factory red insert. The trigger may well have been original, but it has been rounded and polished, which will make shooting a little more pleasant to the index finger. Your assessment is correct, it's a real nice shooter.

Welcome to the Forum! .44 Magnums are very popular with Forum members, so you're in good company. You acquired a nice 4" 29-2, and for a great price. Any N-frame revolver (and especially a Model 29) for under $1K is a deal! It does appear that the red insert was serrated, and that the revolver has had a trigger job...but that's OK. Shoot it and enjoy it! However, be advised that S&W .44 Magnums are addicting...

Nice gun, in good condition!

I spotted this thread as I am going to be in the same boat. I got a call that my offer was accepted so I go to start paperwork on a 4" 29-2 tomorrow at my local gun shop.

yours is in nicer condition than mine. Wish I were in a different state so I had more options that what is on the consignment shelf locally or what someone meet me with for a private party exchange at the same gun shop. [california here]

Congratulations on your iconic revolver! I always preferred the 4 inch guns, though I've had a number of 6 and 6.5s in the past. Yours looks great, I would have jumped on it for that price!

!

Thanks all for the info and the warm welcome. Some of my 4” guns: 27-3, 57 no dash and the new-to-me 29-2. Hopefully no one minds the non-pinned 27-3… :D

You've got good taste in S&W revolvers...even the non-P&R 29-3! LOL! My first ever handgun purchase was a brand spankin' new 4" blued Model 57 with the mahogany presentation case and goodies. I was just out of college and working my first real job, and Dirty Harry was all the rage. I tried to find a Model 29, but they were as scarce as hen's teeth in the late 70s. I found a Model 57 at a gun store, and figured a .41 Magnum might be a little softer to shoot than the .44 Magnum. I really fell in love with that revolver, and did a lot of handloading for it. I carried it around town in a Bianchi X15 shoulder holster. Unfortunately, a year or so later it was stolen (along with my roommate's 6" Colt Python) during an apartment burglary. All the thief left me was the presentation case. I have quite a few N-frame revolvers in my modest collection (.357, .44, .45 ACP) but for some reason I never replaced that Model 57...until just a couple of years ago. I found this minty 4" nickel Model 57 at a local gun show, and it was about the same vintage (1981). Believe it or not I still have that original presentation case (jcelect relined it for me some time back), so now I have a complete package again. And it reminded me of how much I like to shoot .41 Magnum. Enjoy!
