I've kind of gotten away from revolvers due to weight and lack of capacity. When I have a choice between my 2 1/2" 66 with 6 rounds or a Glock 19 with 16 rounds, I go Glock (especially in the crazy world we now live in). And they probably weigh about the same.

I saw this 2 inch 327 at a local shop about a month ago. It was priced low at $650. After seeing it again yesterday, I decided to go back and get it today. Not that I really needed it, but at that low price, at least I'll get my $$ back out if I decide I don't like it. It also fits the weight and capacity concerns I have for carrying a revolver. 8 rounds of .357 should get the job done. Not much different than a single stack 1911 which I also carry on occasion.

It's cut for moons, but didn't come with any. I'll order some from Midway. It also had the older style Aherns finger groove grips, but I figured I'd try this Pach I picked up for $5. Should help with recoil if I go .357.

Everything seems tight with good timing and lock-up. Just need to go shoot it.

If mags are too much.....
Get some Supervel 38+P Super snubs!!!
The shorter case will eject easy and the load is near 357 short barrel specs...
Got one and though about a SS cylinder....
They are "Light"

I love the look of the Pug nose revolvers

Though I prefer the old Pachmayr Compac grips on mine

Hard to believe, but this 8 shooter is lighter weight than a 2" 357 Magnum model 640 J-frame

Fortunately the larger size and bigger grips make this pretty easy to shoot. I have had mine for just about 15 years now

I actually bought one of those grips too when I picked it up. But the Grip on it feels so good, I'm not sure if I'll use the Compac. They are normally my preferred choice of grip.

As for ammo, before I bought this, I checked out Luckygunners Ballistic data. I wanted to confirm a 2" .357 had some advantages over .38 spl. It seems velocity & penetration win out with .357 mag. But I'll have to try out both for flash and recoil.

While watching one of my Thunder Ranch videos a few weeks ago, I did notice Clint Smith carrying one of these on his ankle. So I guess that's also a possibility.

Appreciate you sharing this. I'm in the research phase for a new .357 mag to carry.

Is the barrel right at 2"? I'm seeing some new smiths with a 2.625" or 2.725" barrel.

Thanks,

I am a big fan of the compacs on the snubby N-frame carry guns as you can see from my 357 Magnum, 10MM Magnum and 41 Magnum Night Guards

A 357 Magnum will always leave the barrel 200-500 FPS faster than a comparable 38 Special despite all of the Internet Urban Legends that 357 is useless from a snub nose

As to flash, if you are shooting white/yellow/green box or foreign import ammunition there will be substantial muzzle flash because to save money on their bargain brands, flash suppressant is not added to the load. This is always impressive at the range

If you are shooting Premium Defense ammunition from one of the Big Manufacturers there will be far less flash

However, Muzzle Flash is not as big a deal as most people might think. If Muzzle Flash could blind you, then the flash from the Barrel/Cylinder would blind everyone during low light shooting.

Recoil out of any of the lightweight guns is significant.

Lightweight Magnum guns are not fun to shoot and nobody would ever choose one for an afternoon of plinking. However almost anyone can tolerate 5-8 rounds of Magnum ammunition when your safety is in jeopardy

The 2 3/4" revovlers that you are seeing are the 6 shot, 357 Magnum Model 66 or the 5 shot, 44 Magnum Model 69. These are somewhat new introductions to the Smith and Wesson lineup

The 8 shot, 357 Magnum, Model 327 has been offered in various 2", 2 1/2", 4" and 5" configurations for decades.

I actually already have a box of this. Along with other countless .38 & .357 options.

Per Luckygunners chart, Federal Vital-Shok 140 Grain Barnes Expander HP looks promising out of a 2". And I already have a few boxes.

One of the best carry revolvers I ever owned was the 7 shot 386 NG. And foolishly got rid of it.

I like it most carry in short barrel .38/.357's. BB had a similar load and one with a 125 grainer that's nice from a snubby.

And bought a 396 NG that I'm digging.

I finally got this out to shoot. Just a few cylinders on 158 SWC, but it was accurate at 7 -10 yards with very little recoil. I'd definitely carry rounds on moon clips, just to help with ejection.

Anyone know if this gun can handle a 180 gr. HC Bear load?
