Having fallen in love with magnum revolvers, especially my prized GP100, I thought I'd step it up a notch with a 629. Finding this 629-4 DX for $500 was a happy day, and overall I'm very impressed with the quality. I have the much recommended X-frame Hogue grips on order from S&W, and am looking forward to breaking it in.

For those in the know, can you fill me in on whether this model has the MIM parts or not? Also, I noticed this one has the trigger mounted firing pin, but seem to recall reading that these weren't too common?

thanks all for helping to support the budding addiction!

Doug

You did great. I always wanted a DX and for $500 you can't beat it. No mim parts they are steel. Doesn't matter, most of my Smiths have the Mims and they hold up very well.

Now show us some pics of groups.

thanks very much for the info! I was only curious about the composition of the parts, as i didn't know if the -4 guns were still using forged or if the switchover occured already. I'm confident that either forged or MIM would suffice for my (and probably most folk's) needs. I have yet to shoot it, and will probably wait until I install the X-frame grip that is inbound. I'll be sure to report back though. thanks, from a fellow Arizonan (Mesa).

Doogy, Man what a deal you got . I have 8 629 DX's and never got a deal like the one one you did. Good job and a great gun!
