Now having a few Model 28's, I also wanted a Model 27-2.

Unfortunately I have been unable to find any in my search (and I admit to not being one that likes to buy used guns, without being able to handle them), so when I saw this 27-3, I couldn't resist, even though I'm not much of a Nickle fan.

I will still be looking for a 27-2 (blued, of course!), but this -3 will have to do for a while.

Very nice!

Like you, I searched high and low for a 27-2 and ultimately found a 5" in like new condition (blue).

More searching for a 4" - holy grail - and the best I could do was a 27-3. Bought it and other than the P&R, same revolver.
Totally satisfied as you will be with your -3.

Very nice gun. Looks a lot like my 6" nickel. Mine's a 27-2, but it's a transitional gun with recessed chambers but no pinned barrel. I have mixed feelings about new vs old, too. I'm no gunsmith in any way, shape, or form, so the new gun warranty counts for something. I've been very happy with the old Smiths I've bought so far, though.

I respect the intelligent logic of your statement.

Unfortunately, every new gun eventually becomes an old gun.
Just go for quality. Assume that should you need it, there's a good chance that piece of paper won't be worth much.
More than a couple guys on this forum have sent in a treasured gun for "warranty work" to S&W only to be sent back an inferior newer model, or worse yet a voucher, because they no longer supported the older gun.

Respectfully,
Jim

I had been following the "Ultimate 27" thread and other threads about the 27-2, which had me thirsting for a 27-2, as well. I recently found a beautiful 27-2 nickel 6" at Cabelas gun library, and took the plunge. I'm very happy with the purchase, though it's still in jail at the FFL. Can't wait to bring it home and put some rounds thru it.

This was my first 6" and my first nickel gun. Congrats on yours!

I have a great fondness for the 27-2. Guess that is why I have so many. BTW, that 4 incher was the hardest to find and most expensive. Wonderful examples of S&W quality. Enjoy yours.

Well, I guess it'll do...

Just kidding, of course. That's a beautiful revolver, even if it's not quite the one you were looking for.

Very NICE! How could you resist it? I am 27 challenged! Someday? Bob

I was on my quest to get blued 27-2's in all the barrel lengths when I came across this 27-3 4" for sale locally at a good price ($500 I think, just the gun) the hammer and trigger have been jeweled, and someone who knew what they were doing slicked up the action. It shoots and handles as well or better than any of my -2's. P&R, no; excellent gun, oh yes.
