I mentioned in another Post that I was helping a good friend research and price a handgun collection that he recently inherited from his Dad. His Dad had good taste for the most part, and his collection included S&Ws, Rugers, Dan Wessons, Colt SAA, and a hodgepodge of other revolvers and pistols (e.g. Erfurt Luger, P-38, Makarov, CZ, High Standard, and even a Glock) in very good to NIB condition (including some commemoratives).

As a reward for my research efforts, he was insistent that I let him sell me a couple of pieces at prices I couldn't pass up (both for $1200). I chose a ANIB 6" blued Model 28-2 (ca. 1973) and an ANIB early Dan Wesson 6" blued Model 22 (ca. 1979). Too bad that the DW wasn't a Pistol Pack, but it's a nice piece by itself. I would have bought one or two more handguns, but my gun fund was exhausted (and I had promised my wife that I wouldn't buy any more guns for awhile!). She gave me a pass on these because I was helping out a friend. He's going to hold a private sale in March, and I can still choose some others at bargain prices if I can scrounge up some additional money soon. I'll pick these two up in the morning, and post some additional pics. Enjoy!

I don't know that much about Dan Wesson Revolvers. You may be able to pick up other barrels.

That 28 is BEAUTIFUL!!!
I have a 28 no dash 6" from 1960. It started with me wanting a 27. Couldn't find 1 that I could afford. So.......hence the 28. Look for 4" versions once and a while, but have a 4" 586 no dash. (guess that is as close as I will get) Bob

Very nice. So in essence, you bought the ANIB Model 28-2 at a retail price and got an ANIB Dan Wesson 22 for free. You got a BOGO!

I started checking on extra .22LR Model 22 barrels (2-1/2", 4", and 8") that might be for sale, and apparently they are as scarce as hen's teeth! I couldn't find any. Even CZ (parent company) doesn't stock them. Looks like similar barrels for DW .357 Magnums (Models 14, 15, etc.) are running in the $300+ range online, but there aren't many around either..even on the DW Forum "For Sale" pages. I'll continue to check from time to time.

Was paying down on a Dan Wesson back in the 70's, got laid off and couldn't keep paying so I took a Mossberg 500 for what I had put down. Not a bad deal but not a DW.
Fast forward to the 90's, I picked up a Model 25/1955 complete in its original box, all there except one of the accessories. Looking at your pics, now I see it was what looks like a screwdriver or other sort of handled tool. What is it and where could I find one, anyone? I'd really like to make the set complete when I pass it on to one of my boys. Thanks for any help.

Great choices and outstanding deal! Is there any chance your friend's sale is going to be during the week of March 15th. I'm going to be visiting my dad in Sarasota, FL. and I will have cash and can travel.

Great Friend and Great Deal, I hope you are able to come up with more cash and your wife stays in her tolerant mood for more toys when he stages his next sale. The DW barrels they don't seem to come around often. Guys who have the pacs tend to hold onto the sets for their versitility & vaunted accuracy, so when you do see stray barrels on sale grab them. Also if I were you Any DW barrels that do show up in your travels I would grab as trading fodder to outfit this gun.

As promised, I added some photos of my Model 28-2. It has a couple of very minor scuffs but otherwise is basically NIB. This is the most complete package I've seen in awhile with tools, vapor papers, and a full set of advertising brochures. I also found the original owner's purchase receipt.

Original Purchase Receipt

And lastly, here is the original purchase receipt from Sept 3, 1974. A brand spankin' new 6" Model 28-2 for about $145! I hid the original owner's name and address (for obvious reasons), but this HP was purchased at a gun store that was only about 15 miles from where I currently live. Armstrong's Arms and Ammo was a well known gun store, but is long gone. The original owner lived in Satellite Beach, FL...only about 5 miles away!
