My most recent purchase is this 610-3. This is my first large frame S&W and I already loaded the moon clips for a range trip. This gun is super clean (may be unfired). I have plenty of 10mm and 40sw ammo so should be a fun time. And I definitely need to get the moon clip "assistance" tool(s). Loading and unloading is a real challenge.

Congrats. I’ve got the 5” and the Lew Horton 3”. Love both of them and the caliber. I use the metal clips as well as the plastic. For the metal I just use a small piece of wooden dowel to de-moon. To load I just push the cartridge with my thumb.

Congratulations on a wonderful addition to your Family

With practice, loading moon clips is fairly easy. The trick in not to push the cartridge into the clip, but roll it into the clip

Unloading moon clips is another story. Many of us have made de-moon tools for copper tube or old golf club shafts. Just cot a half moon off one end of the tube and you are done.

Commercial de-moon tools can be bought from all the on-line sellers. Here is one from Brownells
