Just picked up a very nice model 27-2 today at an estate sale. It has an 8 3/8" barrel and an S-prefix serial number, S283xxx, placing DOB at 1966 according to SCSW. It looked fired very little, but probably with 38s judging by the faint lead rings (where the shorter case would have ended) in a couple of the chambers. There is almost no turn line. The unusual thing about this gun is that it came with a red ramp front sight and white outline rear sight as well as a target hammer and trigger. I know that before 1975, the 27s did not come standard with the 3Ts. I also know that the patridge blade front sight was the usual configuration for barrels longer than 5". The gun appears factory to me. To finish off the package, it came with a beautiful set of diamond target stocks that look like new. This is the first set of diamond targets I've ever owned, and I'm very surprised at how much smaller they look and feel compared to the speedloader cut targets on my 27-3. The diamond targets appear period correct for 1966, so my guess is the RR, WO and 3Ts were probably special ordered as a package. I'm pretty sure that you could still special order things back then. Alas, no box or papers. The best part was that the price was $599 OTD, which sounded like a deal considering that S-series 27s aren't exactly growing on trees! It also sounded good compared to some of the prices I've been hearing other forum members seeing while shopping around. Here's some pics, but they really don't do the bluing justice. It's really got a mirror-like polish compared to my 27-3:

Wow...I'd say you did very well. I'm betting that long barrel will reach out there and touch em'.....accurately!

Every estate sale I've been to has pots, pans, crystal....etc but haven't happened upon any guns yet. You must be living right.
Craig...

Very nice and unique.

I have a "normal" M27-2 "N" series and am wanting to see just how fast I can run 125 grain and 110 grain hollowpoints out of it.

Stocks could be original since the gun is "full target" (hammer and trigger).

The long 27s don't feel so awful muzzle heavy as do the models with heavier barrels. Mine is very accurate.

Very handsome gun.

Very nice 3 1/2"ers. I did enjoy seeing them. Thanks for sharing. Interesting that the serial number is so close to mine. Maybe they did a batch of full target models.

This is what the never ending search is all about!! When you find something like your 27 it makes all the dead end trips worthwhile. Congratulations... Never give up the hunt for another one........:)
