Just traded my uncle a 1st gen Glock 17 for a excellent Smith & Wesson model 29-2 nickel plated. 6.5" barrel also pinned and recessed. I have a stainless 6" 6291 no dash that is pinned and not recessed that I have had for a few years. It came with a presentation box and all paperwork.
29-2 came with leather holster and 3 boxes of Blazer ammo.
He was happy and I for sure am!
Will need to find some nice grips as the ones are it are pretty abused. I did just get a set of Pachmayr finger groove but they don't fit to well, lots of flashing inside and will need to be trimmed.

Don't ever let him know how badly he got taken on that deal. You could buy at least 4 G17's for what the M29-2 is worth. The 6-1/2" barrel dates it to early 1979 or earlier. Nickel has a premium over blued, and the 6-1/2" barrel brings a 10% premium over a 6". Can you give us a partial SN, like the N and first 4 digits?

He didn't care too much for the caliber and we had talked about several times when I was visiting.

Since I retired I have more time to check out all the forums. My dad was always a Colt or Ruger fan same as I was until I was gifted my grandfathers pre model 15 lettered my Smith and Wesson manufactured in 1949, given to him by his Merchant Marine brother.
Only 6 rounds fired through it and still have the original box of Peters .38 special he bought for it. No box or papers just the leather holster my grandmother bought him for it.
Have a stainless Lady Smith given to me before a great friend passed away, was his wife's and a sad history behind it. A excellent in the box 14-3 and a nice 19-3.
Look forward to being more involved with all the forums I am registered with.

I bought a very early Glock 17 about 1990. It had a very bad habit of throwing brass straight back into shooters face or down the shirt. If that happens to your uncle a few times he ain't gonna be happy. I traded mine in as part payment on a 4" Python.

Not a Glock fan by any means but this is one super accurate and easy to shoot. Have a model 23 in three calibers .40, .357 Sig and 9mm. Nice all around but not as accurate and the old model 17. A model 19 my grandson got was bad about burning your arm with hot brass.

My brother bought a half dozen Glocks and he said the same thing. Sold them all ASAP. Who would want a Glock over a model 29?

1st gen. Glocks pending on the year and serial number can fetch well over $2500.
I sold a 1985 Glock manual on eBay 3 years ago for $1200, no joke.
Hope you didn't have an early one.

Welcome to the S&W Forums! Trading a Gen 1 Glock 17 for a 6 1/2" barreled S&W Model 29-2 with the nickle finish... you were the winner in that trade and by a good margin.

As long as your uncle is happy, and I know you are happy (beautiful 44 mag BTW) the trade was a good one.

As for the 1st iteration of the Glock, I gave one to my son years ago and he embarrasses his attack pilot buddies shooting their Sigs and Colts. Of course that may be more of a testament to his shooting skills, but that old Glock can lay it down.

Wow, would I have loved that deal!...I would have been caught short though as I don't own any Glocks to trade...The 4" nickel version I acquired yesterday was had using old-fashioned greenbacks......Ben

If your Glock was complete with original box, manual, etc. and serial number starting with Ax xxxx, you probably left over $1000+ on the table..
Yes I like Smith revolvers over Glocks, but I collected older gen.1's and they can bring crazy money.
Sold a very nice complete early one last year for $3400. If yours was not complete and a 1987-89 Glock, you did very well.
