Hello,
I'd like to say hello to all Forum members. I just joined today mostly because of a new hobby of mine as I am a member of other firearm forums, and I value the S&W specific knowledge that you guys could hopefully share with me here. I am an electronics engineer, and I have been into shooting sports, hunting, and collecting for a more than a few years. I have a taste for H&K pistols which got me into .45 autos. When I was a teenager, I shot a friend's S&W Model 1917, and I was impressed. After I bought 2 H&K .45s, I found a S&W Model 1917 at an estate auction and picked it up. It was in decent shape, but there was pitting on the barrel so its collector value was pretty much gone. I had a gunsmith fix a few small mechanical problems with it. He sent the grips out to be refinished and they came back really beautiful. He also had the pistol parkerized, and the result was a great looking revolver that is a great shooter, but one that holds more value to me as a nice piece of history than as a collectors item, but that's OK with me. I just got my C&R, and after getting a CZ 82, I saw a S&W Model 29 4 screw that was C&R eligible. Now that is something that I would like to add to my collection. I can't afford one in great condition since they can easily go for more than a grand. I want to find one with a nice bore and in good mechanical condition, but with a worn finish and no expensive Coke grips that can drive the price up big time. I was hoping that folks here might be able to tell me where to look a pistol that fits my bill. Thanks, and it is a pleasure to join your forum.
