I had the gun for a month now, and have read many threads about the Pro Series 9 shooting low and left for many new to the gun. Some wanting to return it. First time out I was kind of wondering the same thing. After all, I can get a better group closer to center with my LCP and XDs. I bring in M&P 9mm used by competitive shooters, and I'm on target, but not real pretty.

Fast forward 4-weeks and three trips to the range, and I'm punching a big hole POA at 30 Feet.

Lesson learned, Don't judge a gun too quickly. If you are a bowler, and want to improve your hook, buying a ball used by a pro is not going to help your hook right away. You still got to practice, you just have a better ball to practice with. Same with Golf. The highest priced club at the store is not going to do it, without practice and patience.

My third time out I did beautiful at 30 feet, so I pushed it out to 25 Yards. Yikes! 8 inches low of POA outside the 7 ring. Am I worried though? By years end, I predict at 25 yards I'll be in the 8 and maybe the 9 ring.

That's why I stink at golf?!?!

Congrats on sticking with it. Practice pays off...it's nice to see your results for the time put it.

Dry fire practice. Daily.

Boy did it help me to learn the M&P trigger system.

M&P trigger is garbage.

Face the facts. The trigger is garbage. And if you are unlucky enough to be a resident of Massachusetts (which is the home of S&W. Hows that for irony?), your trigger is worse than garbage. Unfortunately, we can't buy new Glock in Mass. because of S&W's influence in writing the Attorney Generals regulations resulting in keeping their top competitor out of the state. Nice for S&W. Bad for the handgun buyer.

Trigger is garbage

Pops9, the trigger on my 9mm Pro has a trigger pull of almost 7 pounds. S&W customer service said it should be 4 1/2 pounds and to send the gun back. An alternative would be a buy an Apex trigger kit and pay to have it installed. What would you do? I think I would be happy if my trigger pull was 4 1/2 so should I just send it back? Let me know. Thanks, Jim

I was speaking from a Massachusetts resident's perspective. In this state we do not have the option of having S&W rework the trigger. They will not do it. They sacrificed us to Scott Harshbarger, our former AG. Believe me when I say that any M&P purchased in Massachusetts has a trigger that you too would consider garbage. It bears zero resemblance to your trigger.

I have a FS 9 Pro, 40 CORE, FS 22 and the range master keeps telling me I didn't buy Bullseye Target guns when I complain I am not getting one inch groups at 20yds. I can get 7/8" bench rest at 20yds with the 22. These M&P are made for SD and stuff like IPDA not shooting the X out of a target at 50yds, but I love them. Don

FreedomRocks,
Back in the old days when PPC was popular, I built a lot of guns, for some top shooters. They all went to the range before delivery to make sure they shot as advertised. I had one customer return his pistol with the claim it didn't shoot very well. I took it to the range and it held just under 1.5 inches at 50 yards. When I showed him the target, his comment was"well, it doesn't shoot that good when I shoot it". Lesson learned. A well tuned, properly built pistol or revolver is only part of the formula. It will not make a great shooter out of someone that lacks the fundamentals. Keep putting bullets down range and make sure your practice is "good" practice.

Yeah but...

Lesson learned, Don't judge a gun too quickly. If you are a bowler, and want to improve your hook, buying a ball used by a pro is not going to help your hook right away. I couldn't agree with you more but I would like to add something. Did you ever pick up a gun and start hitting everything you aim at on the first try? I have several of those. And yes practice will get you on paper with the most repugnant gun out there. Most all new guns will group and it is simply a matter getting that group where you want it.

But and here is the but... With a long sight radius and extra weight why do you think your group was so big in the first place if your XD's group was better?

Was it practice that made the group smaller or did you have to learn how to shoot differently or both?

I just bought a beat to hell S&W 915. The econo version of the 5906. I only bought it because I am collecting all metal guns before they disappear completely. I took it out and it shot so well in my hand that now it is my daily carry.

Now back to your gun, why did you have to spend so much time getting used to it? It also seems like you are not the only one either. I am not saying it is a bad gun and I am sure that in a machine rest it would punch one hole at that distance. But what do you think you had to overcome with it? Any idea?

I shoot a G19 but my wife's gun is an M&P9 compact from 2013. At 5' the compact fits her hand like a full size fits me at 6'. New, the trigger was awful and it shot low and left as well. I put an Apex Polymer Sear and Trigger Kit in it as well as polished up a few contact points with some jewelers rouge. I'm not sure the pull weight but to me it seems about the same. What is different is the feel. because now it's VERY smooth with a shorter reset that you can lightly hear and feel. No more shooting low to the left either! The first shot fired was at 30 yards and it went through the center dot! It was luck of course. The other shots (slow and careful) were no more than 2" off. Rapid fire was more like 5". I also put a set of Warren tactical FO sights on there as well which I think helps a lot with out aging eyes. Her white dots fell out at the first gun glass it went through anyway. Its a sweet gun!!

I bought an M and P 9MM Pro series about a year ago.I put TRUGLO ( day and night glow) sights on it and installed an APEX trigger. It is and EXCELLENT weapon. I have owned Glocks, Sigs, Colts ( you name it) and this is by far the very best carry weapon I have ever owned. I have fired about 12,000 rounds through this weapon in the last 16 months and have never had a malfunction. I carry this weapon fully loaded with 18 rounds and 2 extra mags ( 17 rounds each). I have taken several combat handgun courses, fired 42,000 rounds in the last 3 1/2 years after my retirement and am now considered as " semipro". " It ain't the arrow, it's the archer" that makes the difference. Either practice until it becomes muscle memory, or buy a shotgun and put the handgun in the safe. The M and P handgun , in my opinion, is the ONLY carry weapon. I will bet my life on it.

All M&Ps are great guns for what they are built for. Just don't expect them to shoot a 1 1/2" group at 50 yds even with a Ransom rest. You want that spend big bucks and get a custom 1911. All 3 of my M&Ps will shoot the center of a target out up to 10yds and that is what they are made for.

Yes practice and a lot of it but if you are not practicing the wrong techniques you are not going to get a lot better. I see shooters that show up at the range several times a week that shoot groups at 5yds that look like they used a 12 ga. I suspect they would save money and maybe their lives someday by spending that ammo money on a good instructor. Don

It is true that the manufacturer is required to funish the pistol with the 10+ pound trigger however there is nothing in the law which prohibits the buyer from installing an Apex trigger or having it installed by someone else. S&W is bound by Mass. law and I'm sure they would rather build one version of the M&P rather than special versions for CA and MA. I wouldn't blame S&W for the stupidity of Mass. gun law.

That would def have 2 suck.. That's unreal... The whole state of MA can't buy glocks ??

Back in to compition after 27 yr break.

Bought a Pro9, Because i want to get back in to combat shooting, With S&W offering the 3 free mags, i only had to buy one more mag. First time out shooting was a tad to the left &and high. So i added a Apex trigger & adjustable Noval sights still a tad high. I only have about 200 rounds down range. I am shooting at 20 yards, i do want to get it lowered, i may have to swap out front sight, and if that dont lower group , i will send it to Novak.

What the hell is wrong with you people??? Why don't you take your state government out to a tar and feather party? I would have to either vote em out of office or leave that state. I used to live in Colorado and my CCW permit is good there but if I go to visit I have to be careful which guns I take.

We need to take our country back. But it is interesting to note that S&W is getting bitten by the same government they used to push Glock out. Dealing with the devil comes to mind.

But a 10 pound trigger is just too much in your face government. wait till they come up with state uniforms for your children. Got to get em thinking the way you like while they are still young enough to not know any better.
