Just bought a new 351c. Timing of the cylinder checks out fine but the rachet looks like its chewed up. I plan on contacting S&W.

Looking for opinions. Is this an issue or am I being too picky and should just shoot it until a problem shows up if ever.

I am pretty sure this was done by the factory intentionally. I have seen other 351c's on Youtube reviews and the racket teeth look untouched, but one well know reviewer said he had two chambers out of time and he had a clean looking rachet.

It had some small burrs that I removed gently.

If it works don't fix it???

Its been 5 weeks since they received the 351c. S&W cannot give me any information. The usual 4 to 6 weeks??

You didn't inspect it before making purchase? With the reputation of inferior workmanship you gotta give them a good look…

Range session the 351c ran 100 % with 4 different brands of 22 magnum ammo of which one was a very old box of Winchester, and a fifth box was another Remington box. Somewhere between 100 to 150 rounds fired. Brands were Winchester, CCI, Federal Punch, Remington. The hits on the cases were very deep and consistent. The Winchester did not freely load on all chambers but i probably had fired maybe 75 rounds by then. All the cases extracted with basically no resistance. As far as accuracy I had Total Joint Reverse Shoulder replacement 8 weeks ago, so I am still a little weak. 7 yard staged with punch ammo was about 4" max. When I shot fast extreme spread was about 10" but most under 8". One handed I had to shoot with no staging and 10 to 12" max spread was best I could do with the repaired shoulder. I also ran a few rounds thru my Ruger Max as a comparison and the Max slow fire the group was under 3".
After about 60 plus rounds the trigger pull became rough. I forgot to lube the revolver before shooting. A wipe down and some oil in my range bag quickly fixed the stickiness. The range did not have a good target sheet to shoot at and using different ammo made it difficult to detriment how the 30 gr vs 40 gr ammo shot. My proposed carry ammo of Federal Punch was dead on at 7 yds. The sights are great for quick pick up but not fine for really precise shooting for me.
Bottom line I am a happy camper at this point and the 351c will serve its purpose for me as a reliable pocket gun.
At some point I will work on the trigger. I have extra 22 mag main springs to shorten say maybe a tenth of an inch and I will replace the 18 pound return spring with a 14lb. spring. I am hoping to get the trigger pull down from 13.5 pounds to +/- 11 lbs and 100% reliable.
Update: Checked Trigger pull after range session> the trigger pull is now 12.5 LBS with no modifications. Sweet.
