I just filled out the info to be a new forum member ,so until an other person joins, I'm the new member ..
I have been researching the net to get info on the disassembly of my 686 357 mag. S&W. Found some, but not to my liking.
I would think that having a part description with pictures and the step instruction would be the way to go.
I'm going to go the S&W web site to see what they have.
Don't panic, It's just been 15 years sense I'v worked on pistols. I just need to get my library back .
thanks- looking forward to hearing from all u oldies and hands on gun owners

Just about anything S&W related, somebody on here knows about it.
Welcome from Iowa.

Welcome to the forum. I don't have much to add except that The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly has a lot of explicit information on taking apart guns that you may find useful. Part II is specifically for revolvers. These cost less than $30 and are available at many sporting good stores, including Sportsmans Warehouse and Cabela's.
Good luck.

Welcome aboard! If you want to take your gun apart, consider getting Trigger Job by Jerry Miculek. He'll show you how to do it and what to do once it's apart if you're inclined to try to smooth up any parts.

leadfree , welcome I hope you will enjoy your 686 as much as I have enjoyed my 586, same revolver except carbon steel not stainless.

Keep in mind that the removal of a side plate and assorted parts on a Smith and Wesson is best left to either a gunsmith or factory trained armorer, it's very easy to bugger up screws, reinstall them in the wrong location, or mar the side plate.

You will love the Model 686 and you will get good solid advice in this forum.
