What is the difference between a model 29-2 and a 29. A friend of a friend has both for sale.

When you see a model with a dash and then a number the number is the engineering changes that occured so a 29-2 is the gun released with the second engineering change and the Model 29 no dash is the first version. The no dash 29 was a 4 screw and the 29-2 were a 3 screw model. The no dash 29 has a serial number staring with an S and the 29-2 serial numbers started with an N in 1969 and those made from 1962 to 1969 still had started with an S until S333454 when they switched to an N.

I'm sure that more 29 experts can clear up any mistakes I made.

I'd be interested in the 29 no dash if you arent, my email is in my profile.

I just picked up a very nice M29-2 @ auction for $370. It has been fired but in great shape, no box. I bought is as a shooter & it came w/ nice factory diamond grips. The grips do not have ser.# inside, but are near perfect. I have taken them off & put Hogue wood grips on for shooting. Anyone know what checkered N-frame diamond grips are worth?

Just a slight addition to the information. I have an S Serial number Model 29-2 with a 4" barrel.Yes, the cokes came with it.
Here's a pix.

That is exactly what mine looks like. I can't believe it didn't go higher. Here in Kalif., the only way I can get a prelock S&W is at an auction or consignment. That usually means I'll have to pay more but I got lucky just this once.

FREDJ338,

I am looking for a set of "cokes". Do you still have them for sale?

Thanks,

Ted
