Just getting back into shooting for sport and home protection, purchased my first handgun, a Shield 9 this week and really excited to get shooting and may CCW after I get familiar with the gun. Did a little bird hunting when I was younger, but just didn't stay in the sport, since I'm a city boy. Also inherited a WWII issue 1911 Colt 45, which I have never fired, I know this gun is worth some money and was just wondering your guys opinion on shooting it. Look forward to the forum!

Welcome from the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey.

Your WWII warhorse should be fine to fire with factory hardball. You could experience failures to feed using hollow points or semi wadcutters. I would not have your old warhorse throated in order to feed hollow points or semi wadcutters.

Welcome from Texas Cackmandu. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Another vote to let that warrior roar again. Full metal jacketed rounds are your friend.

Hey Ricky, did you mean to post here or start a new thread? Either way, good to have you, nice to have another new legal gun owner in the state of South Carolina!

Howdy from upstate, and welcome to the forum.

Shoot the 1911 but first field strip and inspect it.

Go for the CWP class. Much value in being informed of the legalities of deadly force use in your state. The longer barrel of the 45 might help with longer shots required during the test.
