Hey people.
I’ve been lurking here for quite some time and just ordered our 2nd S&W so I’m making it official.
My dad, now passed, was a general gunsmith so I basically grew up in a gun shop and may have been weened on #9. I started shooting as a child and still have my first gun, a Stevens Little Scout. He had me re-finishing wood stocks at around 13 or so and learned to hand fit rifle stocks shortly after. I skill I was able to adapt to building, mostly from scratch, period correct 18th century longrifles. He was known for slow rust bluing in the gun circles in the Tampa Bay Area back in the 60’s. This was when it was the rage to “sporterise” mil-surp guns. I can remember ordering M1 Garand’s for $79 and 1911’s at $20 from American Rifleman. I still have some of those issues and I inherited all his tooling and literature when he passed at 92 right at a year ago.
I’m primarily a 1911 guy but also have and shoot Ruger Single Action’s, lots of .22’s and even have a bucket full of plastic guns.
My wife has a 642-2 and an M&P Shield.
Right now I’m anxiously awaiting the shipment of a no dash 586, 6”. I’ll have to wait and see if it has the M recall stamp.
I was heavily into reloading back in the 80’s and a friend of ours still has most of my gear so I may go back at it. I mainly did precision .308win and .38/.357 and was an avid handgun hunter.
Love this sight and I’m looking forward to learning all I can.
Thanks, Kevin
