Just call the customer service number, and ask them who you need to ask to find out. Give that person your serial number, and they will tell you the build date.

I was told, that rifles after a certain date in October, were unaffected by the problems some are having. Mine was made in October, and it has not had any problems at all.

Do you happen to know what that 'date' is?

Mine shipped in October,............please say it was early October. ;)

Now I am not 100% sure. I am, pretty darn sure though, that it was early October. I would not swear to it though. I was busy that day and the exact date slipped my mind. I would call him again and ask, but I don't want to alienate him by bugging him.

Maybe a serial number range will help?

I purchased mine at a gun show 10 days ago. DTM-1200-series serial number. Seems to be fine.

Good idea Chuck.

Mine is DTH48xx , and mine is great so far.

Hope that helps gunzilla. :)

Hey maxi, maybe our two guns are creche mates.

Now I suppose you are gonna want visitation rights. :D

DTH 20xx. I just got it today. It sounds very promising. I'm headed to the range tomorrow. I'll stick with the open sights for now and maybe put a red dot later. Wish me luck.

another contrats!! I'm waiting on mine to get here. I got 10 brands of ammo, Bsa Sweet .22 6-18 side focus scope, Leapers Accushot rings, Laserlyte v2 laser, and three extra mags waiting here already..

Sounds like you are ready for a big fun shooting day already. :D

Mine is DTH88xx so I think mine will be fine, mine came straight from S&W as part of a deal to make me feel better about my Walther G22 being 'unrepairable'. After owning that nightmare I jumped on the offer to get the M&P 15-22.

Cool part is that they shipped it straight to my door!!

Mine is DTH16XX...has been stellar thus far. By the way...not to sound ignorant (but I am) what's the big deal about someone knowing our exact serial number? Is it because of the chance that someone could forge your serial number and commit a crime or something??
Sorry for the dumb question!

Great. :)

Sounds like that "other rifle" was a major headache. I bet that was frustrating. Well, thankfully you have a 15-22 now.

With that later serial number you should no problems. I bet you have been worrying about a replay of that previous nightmare. I think you can breathe easy now finally. :D

Hi Dukeno1. :)

Good to hear you have had no problems. About the serial number. I don't know really. I just make it a policy not to leak private info. I don't give out my social to those, like insurance companies, who want it for "identification purposes" either. Those who insist, don't get my business.

My serial number is DTB17xx. Must have been a really early one. That is probably why I had to send it back.

It's probaby not that big of a deal. It's more of a better safe than sorry thing. There are stories out there where anti-gun people have taken pictures of guns with visible serial numbers off the Internet and reported them stolen. Whether that's fact or myth, it's plausable.
