Forgive if this has been addressed (share link if so).

I am looking for a aluminum rail system for my MP 15OR.

I do not want to cut or remove metal.

I read that free-floating is the way to go (then why do others not use it?)

Prefer "Made in the USA", but will consider non-Communist country.

Middle of the road quality comparable to this rifle.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Adding a free float rail system to the 15OR is going to require changing out your gas block. I don't believe there is a rail system available that will fit over your existing gas block.

Free floating is more accurate, but it will depend on how you use the rifle. If you are shooting with a red dot sight and milspec or steel cased ammo, you probably won't notice the difference. If you are shooting handloads that are tweaked to your rifle, and using high power optics at 100+ yards, that is where you gain from free floating.

If you are just wanting a rail to hang a flashlight on, or a grip, then there are drop in rails that are available. These will not be free float, but allow you to add a rail without any other modifications to your rifle.

I just put the magpul short one on mine. It's not "free floating" though.

Very light, and can add just the chunks of rail you'll need to accomodate what you want to put on it (in my case, an AFG2 and light....that's it)

Or, you can just add some tapered rails built for a stock handguard. Those only fit on the top and bottom though, not on the sides.

Unless your goal is for it to look cool in spite of how much it weighs....then disregard everything I just typed. LOL

I put the Magpul handguards with a tapered rail on mine as well. If you buy the Magpul rail mounted foregrip, it will have a small rail enclosed with the grip.
