Hi everyone. I've got a Model 10-5 in 38 Spl, s/n C674XXX that has been in my family for about 40 years. Can anyone tell me when this gun was made and will it shoot +P ammunition? Thanks.

Thank you very much. I've got another one. Much, much older. My great grandfather carried it as a policeman some sixty or seventy years ago. Nickle plated. I'll have to dig it out of the safe and see if there're any numbers on it.

Welcome to the forum! The model ten is a all time S&W classic. I never met one that couldent out shoot me. Enjoy your six-guns and post some pic's if you can!

I want a model 10 badly, but I'm trying to wait until I can call buying one a part of my "budget," considering that I just bought a model 19 about a week ago. Two guns a month ain't really a budget. Of course, I'm tempted to buy one NOW on a FUTURE month's budget. I would like to hold out for a mint condition pencil barrel though, and the one I'm looking at now is not a pencil barrel.

The Model 10 and the Model 64, which is just the stainless steel version, are two of the all time great guns.

The M-10 pencil barrel is a great gun. Shoot it, you will like it.

Being the OP is a new member, let's start with calling it what it is, Standard or taper barrell. (vs. heavy barrell) Thanks. :D
