I walked into the local puher, and they have this old 36 in the case on consignment. $415 on the tag. (I would have bought it at that price in an instant, but I have gotten a little better at resisting the impulse buys)
I asked if they would call the seller, and offer him $350.
"Sure, if the guy buys it today" was the response.
Needless to say, I have it. (But not my camera of course. One day I'll buy my wife one for herself)
1962, with the local department store "GEX" sticker on the cardboard and the blue ink label. Original papers and a set of stag grips in addition to the diamond magnas. Not quite NEW, but wonderful shape.

I couldn't be happier. I LOVE 3" revolvers, and being a Chief, the Chief's Special is "special" to me!

I don't care for them, and will sell them here soon, but it's a nice way to offset the sale.
How does one tell if stag grips are faux?

And I just got a phone call, evidently the previous owner had left a holster for it in the shop. They told me to come and get it.
Getting too good, honestly.

Congratulations on an incredible find! If the grips are real stag, I might be interested in them. Send me an email if you decide to sell them. Thanks

I have a 3" 36 also, great shooter, very accurate

I'm having quite a lot of trouble with these stag grips.
I heated up a pin till it was RED, and then touched it to the back of the grip panel. Nothing. Didn't penetrate, didn't mark the grip, didn't smell funny.
Ideas?

The seller must have been a long time local, as I remember the GEX store way back when. Similar to Costco or something now, as you had to be a government employee to get a card. For it's time it was the big department store,
Which gun shop did you find that in and did they have anything else of interest?

Armory on Indian River had this one, but the people at Superior have a 5" model 27-2 I'm drooling over (and can't afford). Ryan told me he'd let it go for $600.
If you can buy it, please do haha!

Do the grips have some weight to them or are they pretty light ? I cnat tell by the pictures what they are made of but, the back side kind of looks right. The front side looks plastic but, its hard to tell. Maybe some better pictures taken in daylight will help.

Yeah. Same seller actually. If it wasn't a no-dash, I would have picked it up too.
The 27 is killing me. Its in wonderful shape for a shooter. Diamond magnas, five inch, blue.
