Joe Wanenmacher has graciously given the NRA National Firearms Museum a table at the Tulsa show, and we hope to have a presence there every show.

Our table is at the bottom of the stairs on the opposite side of the hall from where my OTS table used to be. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of you there, and attending the SWCA Southwest Bunch BBQ Saturday night!

I'm bringing a wonderful gun to show, although it's not a Smith. It's an FN Model 1900 auto pistol, engraved and gold wire inlaid, with factory pearls that was owned by Theodore Roosevelt, President, Rough Rider, and winner of both the Nobel Peace Prize and the Medal of Honor. He passed it to his son, Brig. Gen, T.R., Jr, who earned the CMOH himself on D-Day, meaning this gun was owned by TWO Congressional Model of Honor winners. It then passed to TR's grandson who donated it to the Museum.

See you there! - Jim

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that not the pistol that TR kept as his bedside gun while he resided in the White House?

Different days back then... Wonder what the current resident keeps for that purpose?

That's the oral history we received with the gun.

Another great T.R. annecdote...

In 1902, Pres. Roosevelt was attending the Harvard commencement ceremony. While he was freshening up at the Harvard President's home, the academic was a bit non-plussed when T.R. pulled "a good-sized pistol" from his hip pocket and laid it on the table before stepping into the wash room. When asked if he always carried it, the POTUS responded....

"Yes, when I am going into public places. I should have some chance of shooting the assassin before he could shoot me, if he were near me."

I'm not sure humanity is evolving in the right direction. Where are the T.R.'s for today?
