Nichelle Nichols, Lt. Uhura on 'Star Trek,' has died at 89

She has gone where no living human has ever gone before. Exploring new worlds and galaxies in the infinite universe of eternity.

She said after 1 year she tired of the role, handed in her resignation. Gene Roddenberry said "I'd like to introduce you to your biggest fan." It was Dr. MLK, Jr who persuaded her to stay.

Got to meet her at Chiller Theatre 15 years ago or so.
In the episode "Mirror, Mirror" she got to show some skin. She did justice to that costume.

Yes, and she got more screen time to show her acting chops as well.

BTW I consider "Mirror Mirror" to be one of the best Star Trek TOS episodes.

Seeing Chekov in the Agony Booth was worth the price of admission :D

I remember reading that the character's name Uhura , was a ham fisted play on "Uhuru " a socialist movement that had a limited following with some Americans .Uhura ,was meant to illicit thoughts of familiarity and identity among a population of Americans and seem modern and "now" with viewers.
So ,television … same as it ever was lol

She was indeed a beautiful woman. She wore her red shirt well, and survived every adventure. Mirror Mirror was a fantastic episode. RIP EL T.
