I acquired a nearly-pristine Merwin Hulbert, perhaps unfired. The nickel finish is almost flawless, with just a tiny spot or two beginning to tarnish. I'd like opinions on what is the proper way to care for this finish, and slow down/prevent flaking. Should it be kept dry? Oiled? Are there cleaning/lubrication products that should not be used? I thought about Renaissance Wax but have not read up on it yet. I'd like to hear others' experiences.

I have found that mothers mag polish then a coat of paste wax works the best.

Good Luck Pete

I have used Blue Magic on my Robar NP3 finish on my M&P slides and it works great.

Don't use anything containing ammonia when cleaning. Mothers Mag Polish applied by your bare finger, so you don't get too frisky, and then Renaissance or Johnson's Paste Wax.

I wax it then spray G96 gun silicone on it then wrap it in s&w parchment paper then in the box, and in the safe it goes.
