nickel Model 28's

I had a nickel model 28 that was factory all the way. It was a 5 inch mod. 28 that was one of a few "S" numbered 28's that were used as sales samples for futher police sales.

I never got a "Roy" letter of this nickeled 28 that was a brushed finished type of nickel that looked quite nice. I sold this nickeled 28 to a member on the forum an few years ago,"wish I diden't sell it", But you know how that goes.

Nickel 28? That would be a nice looking gun. Don't much care if it is factory or not as long as the nickel job was quality.

I have shown this picture before but since it is one of my favorite guns I'll do it again. I do not care that this 28-2 did not leave the factory with this finish. To me it is a beautiful nickle job and the gun is a wonderful shooter.

I seen one recently on GB and sent a polite response as it was described as new in pres. box, maybe there were some made, but I have never seen one factory original, so I would have to guess it is a refinish, and it was in a 80's pres box with the tool compartment? If there are some out there i'm sure one would have surfaced on this forum with a letter and I have yet to see one. Needless to say it's still for sale!

Correction: The 28 did not have the pres box, that was a Mod 58 that was being sold as orig box, and seller changed the wording in his ad.
bamabiker, That gun looks awesome! I'm with you as who cares if it is original as long as it looks good and you like it. The problem is people on GB selling guns that don't have a clue, everything is listed as nib, unfired, mint, estate sale, grandmas old Reg. mag, etc. More than half of these guns have a powder burned face on the cyl, wrong boxes, stocks, papers, and they are asking a fortune. Now you got me thinking on what to do with my well worn 4" 28!

There were a few confirmed model 28 nickel sold to the Florida Highway Patrol and I believe they were all 5 inch barrel length. I've seen a very few nickel model 28's over the years that were not FHP guns but do not personally know of any that passed the Jinks letter test. I don't think I would want to spend much on any nickel 28 until it was lettered, as I suspect most will not be factory original.

well I saw a BLACK model 642 on GB and you know the funniest thing? it for some reason looked identical to a 442, for anyone who was reading this and going to post; that's because it was a 442, I know this, but I am not paying $650 for a prelock 442 in that condition, now maybe if it was the compensated version I would but it goes to show most of the sellers on GB are monkeys with keyboards and a combined gun IQ less than room temerature.
