I bought a Nickle K-22 for $98.00 at firearms unlimited in pittsburgh PA when I was 13 years old, that was abbout forty years ago. It came in a silver box with blue printing, it appeared to be factory nickle but i did not know, I wanted to start bulls eye training....The box has long been lost but I still have the pistol
.I was told at the time of purchase that this was a special run from the factory. about twn years ago I sent my info into jenks and was told. I need to find the letter, it is filed away. But he replied that my K-22 was manufactured in 1952 and was a batch of 25 that left the factory blue to a company in nyc. I found one of their catalogs on e-bay and they were a firearms company dealing in all mfg of guns. The must have had my K-22 plated. I will check in tomorrow with the name of the New York gun store that my pistol was shipped to. What I thought was special is just another Blue K-22

Welcome to the forum (as a poster, I see you've been registered for a few years now).

I'd say that if you've owned that gun for 40 years, it's special enough.

The silver box is correct for a nickel gun... if original to that revolver. Too bad you lost it. A nickel K22 would be very rare. You bought the gun new from a retailer? I seriously doubt a dealer would have a brand new gun plated. If you bought it new, and it came to you in nickel, I would figure it was original. But the letter says blue? Strange.

I found my Jinks letter, it advises that
My K-22 Masterpiece Pre-model 17, caliber .22 revolver
Serial # K150xxx
Shipper from factory to J.L. Galif & Son, on July 16, 1952
One of 25 K-22’s with 6” barrels with a Blue finish, walnut magna grips
“nickel plating is not original and was completed after it left the factory”
A few years later I found a J.L. Galif & son catalog
85 chambers st, New York 7, NY
The cover pages advises
“Sporting Arms; Ammunition: money Changers: Accessories”
A catalog listing all of the pistols, rifles and money things. To date a S&W M17 was $81.00 model 41s were selling for $100.00
.
I was 12 years old and who knew to save boxes, it seems like Galif had silver boxes made for their nickel guns, I have checks the gun every where and there are no little n's anywhere. It is still a great pistol and shoots very well. gnpittsburgh
