Does anybody know when Nightguard production began and/or ended? I know the 310 and the 357 were added after the initial rollout. Was there a hiatus or intermittent production, or was it a continuous output? The S&W website just says archived, 'no longer in production' but doesn't say when it ceased. Thanks for any insight.

I've got five NG's in my s/n collection. The first shipped May of 2008 and the last September of 2009. That's my tiny sample, take it for what it's worth.

I've got a 325 NG and the date on the test cartridge is OCT 2008. That doesn't add much, I guess. I did read on the Forum that S&W has more product lines than production lines, so they pretty much have to produce one product for a bit, then transition to another product. That explains why it seems possible to find one particular product pretty easily for a bit and then hard to find it a few months later.

I have a 329 ng that I bought nib last July. The LGS said that they had it for about a year. The fired casing is dated 06-07-2012. It has the round butt finger groove rubber grips. Could be one of the last made.

Night Guard production years

Hi BJ,

The original six Night Guards (two words...I can't keep it straight either) came out in 2008. They were the 315NG, 325NG, 327NG, 329NG 386NG, & 396NG. The last two, the 310NG & 357NG, were added in 2009. (see attached pdfs)

The 325NG & 329NG are the most commonly found. I keep seeing 329NG's pop-up in the LGS every now & then that are current/recent production. As best as I can tell, most (all?) the others were only made for one year (or two at best). I've never seen any production numbers though.

I recently saw that they were originally supposed to have night sights on the rear sight too but I guess they didn't do it because of cost, as if they weren't already expensive enough.

Yes my 325 has the older pachys, but the used 329 I acquired recently had the grips you describe (they are very comfortable!). Those pachys were heavy!

Thanks for the replys. Looks like 2008-2012 is the consensus, in general anyway (close enough for me). Good to know.

The numbers produced would sure be interesting as well, but I guess we'll wait a few years for another edition of the SCSW, or some other source of this information.
