I have a new M&P Sport and was thinking about a small scope. I have been looking at a Nikon P223 3-32 scope on Amazon. My question is, if I put this on my rifle, do I need to remove the A2 front site or buy high mount rings or what? Has anyone put this on their M&P Sport?

Thanks

I put a Nikon P-223 on my AR with the A2 front sight. Looking through the scope you do not see the sight at all, even though it is directly in front of the scope. You do not need to go with high-mount rings. I would imagine there is some degradation of the image but surprisingly you don't notice it. I ended up taking off the front sight anyway when I installed a longer free-float quad rail.

I agree with 427mach1, I put on the Nikon P-223 and don't see the A2. For the money it is a good scope. Waiting on my $30 rebate from Nikon now. The P rings that come with it work fine.

I got my rebate last week, it took about 9 weeks. I used the 2-piece P-series mounts (same as rtquig) and am very happy with them, too. Overall I've been very satisfied with all the Nikon pieces I purchased for my AR.

I can not comment on the site plane issue, but I am up to three Nikon scopes with BDC reticals. GOOD LUCK

I have the same scope, but haven't had a chance to mount it yet. Also waiting on the rebate.

I have the Nikon pro staff 3-9 x 40 scope on my Sport, I used high mounts to make it more comfortable and get a good cheek weld. It is true the front sight does not bother the scope at all, you won't see it.

I see posts where people say you dont need to go with High Mount rings but a lot of it depends upon the shape of your face, I am part native american and have the high cheekbones, the lower rings do not work for me. I cannot seem to get a comfortable, quick and easy sight picture. What works for me doesnt for my wife. So as far as ring height it becomes a matter of personal preference and a persons facial geometry. :D

Its good to know that I should expect to wait 9 weeks for the rebate. I bought a Remington 870 last year at Dick's and the rebate took 5 months! They claimed it took 10 weeks from the time they opened it, which meant it sat in the mail department for 10 weeks prior to opening.

You will not be disappointed if you buy the Nikon.

Depending on the scope and magnification, some people can see the outline of the front post in their scope. Sadly I'm one of those people! I put a Redfield Revolution on my M&P15. The outline of the front post definitely annoyed me... I just recently broke down and removed my front post and replaced it with a lo pro gas block. So... no more outline of the front post for me to have to deal with!

My other AR15 has a Nikon M-223 on it. As such I can definitely vouch for Nikon glass... For the money it's great stuff!

When I first discovered that I was better served with High Rings I could see the faint outline of the front post but the front sight was also almost as high as the top of my scope. When I went to the high rings and it reduced the amount of front sight post in my scope thats when the faint outline went away...everyone is a bit different and its OK

Darn this thread...

Now I'm looking for a low-profile railed gas block with rails the same height as the rails on the upper, a metal front BUIS, and magnified optics.

Every time I think I'm done, these threads keep sucking me back in!

Hi FEES....

I also have a P223 Nikon 3-9 scope and as you can see, the post is in the middle of my scope.....but I do not see it and it does not seem to affect anything.

Gas Block

Yankee Hill(YHM), I believe makes the gas block you are looking for. GOOD LUCK ERIC
