No +P+ in Sigma's?

My usual 9mm carry round is Win 127gr SXT +P+.

I just got a new SW9VE this week. The manual says that +P+ "must not be" used in S&W firearms.

I'm not going to be using it for routine range time (too expensive). I would just shoot a few to make sure it cycles properly, then carry them for SD use.

Anybody think it will hurt the pistol? Anybody else use +P+ in their Sigma pistols?

It's what I carry: Winchester's RA9TA 127-gr +P+ loading. It does 1400 fps average (on the nose) from my SW9GVE. That'll do.

I'm, of course, not advising anyone to ignore the wise directives of the folks at the factory. They designed the gun, and they must know more than I do about it.

It is more of a liability thing, plus the fact that as I unsderstand it there is no SAMMI spec on +P+ ammo so there is no way of knowing what the pressures are. IMO I think the gun will work fine with the ammo, but if something breaks while using it don't expect for the warranty to cover it.

Speer 124 gr. +P Gold Dot would be a safe, but very effective alternative.

H&K is, I think, the only big name maker to more or less okay the use of +P+ ammo. They do so by saying that no known ammunition would be unsafe in their guns, or something to that effect. Glock also okays their pistols for relatively hot offerings.

Wear will probably be increased. I'd expect that a Sigma would "die" or break something sooner than a Glock or H&K would.

But since it is a Sigma... Well even if the warranty didn't work out, at least you're not out much. I don't know why the warranty wouldn't cover it since you could say "I don't know what happened, I only used Winchester White Box..." There might be an outside chance of a catastrophic failure.

FWIW, departments that buy that ammo reportedly have to sign off on a waiver that they understand the risks and agree to take them.

Springfield XD 9 also covered +P+ in their guns, at one time, and I suspose they still do. For my pre-XD HS-2000 the manual said it was OK.

While it might not hurt the pistol, how much of a chance are you willing to take? Are you sure that just a few rounds is enough to convince you that the one bullet you may really need to save your life or that of a loved one will fire properly, especially when the manufacturer recommends, no, WARNS you not to use in the first place?

The most important thing you want (IMHO) with a SD weapon is reliability. If you ever need to pull the trigger in defense of life or property, you need to know that the gun will go bang when you need it most!

My Beretta 92FS manual says the same thing about +P+ loads. While most folks say it is a lawyer thing, I did find that Beretta M9s had a problem blowing off the slide on recoil when submachine gun loads were used rather than pistol ammo.

No idea how +P+ compares to submachine gun loads but I think I will pass on hot loads.

I bought the Beretta for gun games. If I need something serious I have a .45 ACP or a 460 S&W. Either will put some seriously heavy loads.

I have +P ammunition for my Sigma 9mm and my 457(45acp), but never used it because friends insist it will wear out the barrel. Anyone have experiences using +P ammunition?

Works fine in stock SIGMA.
It's the +P+, which has no standard spec, that is cautioned against.

As for wearing out a Sigma barrel, it lasts as long as the rest of the gun. After shooting $10,000 worth of ammunition, you'll be able to afford another $300 gun.
