An old buddy picked me up this morning and we drove a few miles out of town to a rocky canyon below the Pueblo Reservoir Dam on the Arkansas River. Worms, power-bait, spinners, dry flies were put to work under clear blue skies and pleasant temperatures.

Fresh loaf of Italian bread, nice smoked hard salami, Swiss cheese, and ripping-good spicy brown German mustard. Not trying to be "ethnic" here, just describing the goodies that accompanied a cooler of chilled adult beverages.

Daily bag limit of 4 each. We took home 7 nice fresh trout, nothing to brag about, all 10" to 12", just right for the smoker (no, not tobacco, the meat smoker!). Had a few get away. One female made a mess on my buddy's vest with excretions of roe (fish eggs, I sincerely hope this doesn't offend anyone's sensibilities). No juvenile fish were separated from their parents in our detention facility.

For clarification, we did not inquire about the residency status of any of those migratory creatures interdicted by our efforts. All will be treated equally without any preference for their immigration status. Each one displayed rainbow markings, which made us feel very good about supporting all trout equally.

Next week, smoked trout with cream cheese on Ritz crackers and more adult beverages.
