I'm headed to Williston, North Dakota for two months and I'm looking for anyone who can recommend a good gun store in that area. I'll be taking my CC handguns and possibly a few shotguns and rifles too, so I'll be needing a good gun range too.

Thanks for your help.

You're probably going to have to go down to Dickinson for a proper shop.

Curious: Does the Bakken Formation have anything to do with your journey? With the way the boom is on up there, I'm thinking that opening a shop would be a good idea!

I've never been there, but some guys I worked with have gone to the Sportsmans Loft in Minot. Not sure if that's near where you'll be or not. My department and officers have gotten good deals from him. Hope that helps

Yes. Yes it does. A gun shop would be a huge hit there. The Bakken Boom is on.:D

Scenic Sports is about the only real sporting goods store there that I know of, good stock, a little pricey, they're on the east side of town, I forget the street. They do have a web site however... I don't know about ranges over there.

Try not to get run over by all the oil trucks, it's a crazy place compared to what it used to be, I was over there on Monday, lots of oil activity, the Bakken, I 'spect that's why you're going there?

Take care...

Yup, Bakken Boom. Oil money is making some mineral owners millionaires up there.

My son was there for a few months. Not much in the way of gun shops. He did find the local outdoor range, but between a lot of spring rain and very high water it was inundated most of the time.

It's quite the boom town; truck traffic is nuts but everyone tries to be decent about it. Otherwise the place would lock up solid!

A buddy of mine in ND just became an instant multi millionaire a few weeks ago, and no, it had nothing to do with POWERBALL, Lotto or the reservation casinos.

All he could say when he called me, after he stopped laughing was "DAMN, (insert very recent ex-wifes name here) is going to be PEEEOH'D!!! That will teach her to run around on me."

I get over there every couple months as our company has a facility in Williston and it's so nuts I heard that Schlumberger has booked all the rooms in the new Holiday Inn Express for the next 5 years. There's not a chance in heck of driving into Williston and finding a motel room if you haven't booked it weeks if not months in advance.

That's awesome! Revenge on a low-life cheatin' ex is a beautiful thing. I hear Williston is crawling with new Porsches, Mercedes and Land Rovers.

I was making a Wal Mart run earlier this summer and saw an Indian Motorcycle dealer set up in the side parking lot of a gas station, selling hand over fist. I haven't seen many Porsches, Merecedes or Land Rovers, but lots of out of state plates and new pick ups. Going through the Wallyworld parking lot is a geography lesson for the locals.

Yea, lodging is impossible, we get the Canadian tourists here at the port who think they'll spend the night in Willytown, yea, ain't gonna happen, every room in most hotels is taken by oilfield folks. It's man camp city right now, and they're throwing up buildings as fast as they can, support businesses and man camps are the main construction jobs now over there.

I've been going over there since 1990, (it's 82 miles and our closest WalMart) and it's absolutely insane now, should be interesting this winter with all the out of staters trying to drive in our wonderful winter conditions.

Having a cheating ex wife, I love the story of the instant millionaire. Lots of local folks have sold out and moved out, living off the royalty money.

Take some warm clothes H&D, winter is coming and it's mean in this country...

Out of luck....its illegal to shoot in ND, due to the utter lack of any berms or backstops..bullets just sail on forever.;)
